Margaret Wallace Brown, AICP is the City of Houston’s Director of Planning & Development. Throughout her 33 year career, Wallace Brown has led or been part of many of the City’s pivotal planning moments, including the creation of the City’s first general plan in 2015. Today she oversees a department that is focused on the mandate to “build up, not out” and is striving to provide safe and efficient transportation options for all Houstonians. Director Wallace Brown serves as Secretary of the City’s Planning Commission and the Historic Commission and is a member of Harris County’s Vision Zero Steering Committee. In addition to AICP certification, she also holds a Charrette System Certification from the National Charrette Institute, accreditation from the Congress for New Urbanism and is a Certified Public Manager. Her passion for improving Houston is the driving force behind her work and, despite recent headlines, still loves the Astros.
