Learn, Explore, Create, Connect

Although library branches are closed, we still want to make sure you have access to our resources from home. During this temporary closure, we have set up virtual classes online. A computer with speakers and internet access is required. We know how much people rely on their libraries to support their educational, entertainment, and recreational needs, and we will continue to adapt and provide the services needed to succeed.

It's Almost that Time Again! Time to Spring2ACTion!

Spring2ACTion, Alexandria’s Giving Day, will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2020! This 24-hour online giving event, presented by ACT, celebrates the commitment of local nonprofits to make Alexandria a better place to live, work, play and serve. Each year, the Alexandria Library Foundation looks forward to raising money that helps support Alexandria Library. Early giving starts April 3!

In 2019, the Foundation raised over $9,000 in just 24 hours! Will you help donate this year?

While the Alexandria Library is closed until March 31, remember that you can utilize your library's resources from home:

Checkout an eBook or eAudiobook from Overdrive/Libby.
Read a magazine using RBdigital, a free service that offers full digital copies of your favorite magazines to view on a computer or mobile device.
Search databases for articles and information for you or your students, who may be home from school.
Use Heritage Quest from home to work on that genealogy project you've been putting off.
Stream films from Kanopy. Kanopy has created a playlist of movies you can watch without using your play credits. And all Kanopy Kids selections are free to stream until April 12.
Expand your music collection by downloading music from Freegal. You can also stream up to 3 hours of music.
Ask a librarian a question via email or request a Book Match if you need some suggestions on what to read.
Learn a new language with Mango or Rocket Languages.
Take an online class to learn something new!
You can build your resume and get career help with Career Transitions.
Grow your Google skills with Grow with Google classes online.
Use the Gardening and Horticulture database to get information for planting your garden.
Cook up some new recipes from the AtoZ World Food database.
Search for grantmakers on Foundation Center Directory Online. Temporarily available from home.

National Library Workers Day is Tuesday, April 21, 2020!

Nominations may come from library users, students, children, colleagues, faculty, or management. Please visit the Galaxy of Stars to see your nomination. It will be updated weekly.

NLWD is a day for library staff, users, administrators and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
