Baby Iris Update

The Benson Family is our Partner Family from 2014.  Here's the latest health update about their youngest child.

Journal entry by amber bensonMar 5, 2020

I didn't realize until now how long it's been since I last posted an update. I know many of you have continued to pray for our family, thank you for that!

Iris has been staying healthy until a couple of days ago when she started coughing. She also has 2 bottom teeth that have been trying to come in for a couple of weeks. We've started nebulizer treatments 2x/day and are doing all we can at home to make her more comfortable, which means lots of nursing and holding her while she sleeps and extra vitamins. Unfortunately I have also caught the cold she has and as of this morning 4 other kids are also down with headaches, coughs, sore throats and body aches. We've been so incredibly careful but sometimes sickness is inevitable. Gratefully Iris' oxygen saturations are still her normal range and her lungs sound clear. We'd really appreciate big-time prayers for healing for all of us and that Iris won't get any worse and warrant taking her into the hospital.

Iris is still working with PT, massage and a chiropractor to decrease the pain in her neck and shoulders and increase her range of motion. Slowly but surely she's making progress. She will roll from her tummy to her back and loves to stand up supported. Sometimes we're lucky enough to get her to belly laugh while playing peek a boo.

We've had a lot of adjustments physically and emotionally in the last 7 months and are holding tight as a family and working through it together and with those who are trained to help, like our wonderful counselor! Thank you for the continued prayers for all of us!
Habitat's Competent People!
Larry Menzel (3), Larry Narhi (2), and Bill Nelson (Also) are Habitat's CERTIFIED Competent People!  Well, we have many more competent people than just these three - but these three guys are officially certified because they went through a Competent Person Safety Training with Habitat for Humanity International.  As a Habitat affiliate, we are required to have at least one Competent Person and we have 3!  We are grateful for their willingness to serve in this role.  These guys make sure that we're following proper safety procedures on site and have the right safety equipment on site.  So, when these guys tell you to put on a hard hat and safety glasses - do it!  They know what they're talking about (most of the time)!

Lent is a season of 40 days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26, and ends the Saturday before Easter.

It is a time of preparation, of self-examination and of reflection as we journey toward the cross.

The seven devotions in this collection, designed so that you can use one for each week of Lent, focus on ways we can honor Jesus by caring for others.

You may wish to use the positive actions to focus on ways you can draw nearer to Jesus during this holy season.
