As you know, the COVID-19 virus, popularly known as Coronavirus, has continued to spread throughout the world during the last month.
Fortunately, experts increasingly know more about it, its form of contagion and the appropriate measures that must be taken to, if possible, avoid its spread.
Although in our country, the number of cases is not statistically significant at this time, and at school we do not have any cases of sick or infected people, we believe it is important to adopt some internal preventative measures that will help avoid a future possible spread of the virus in our school.
These measures are as follows;
We will provide hand sanitizer gel dispensers in all classrooms and common areas.
We ask our students, teachers and parents to avoid physical contact when greeting one another.
Encourage all students and school staff to wash their hands with disinfectant soap or hand sanitizer at least 3 times a day.
We will temporarily close access to school drinking water fountains.
If any student or member of the school staff detects that they have a fever or cough, they should refrain from coming to school until their doctor rules out that they are carriers of COVID-19.
Withdrawal of brochures and magazines from our offices and waiting rooms.
Additional cleaning and disinfecting of high touch surfaces by our cleaning staff.
We understand that these measures can be a bit uncomfortable, but we ask for your understanding and collaboration as they will undoubtedly benefit everyone.
We also inform you that if at any time our country’s health authorities issue new guidelines on this issue, we will strictly follow them and keep you informed.
Finally, if, by government order, the closing of schools in our country is ordered, we are prepared to continue teaching our students through virtual learning where our teachers will provide online classes and the corresponding support and educational follow-up.
In the assurance that we will have your support at all times, I say goodbye and send you my most cordial and attentive greetings,
Hope you will enjoy reading our newsletter!
Until next week kind regards,
Ms. Gabriella Gidró Director

Open Day in 1st grade
The 1st graders have officially completed their second open day of activities. In English lessons they had the opportunity to focus on food, working together dividing food into groups. It was a great way to raise awareness of health and unhealthy foods, and differentiate between meals and snacks. It was also a great opportunity for parents to see how much the students have bonded over the months, and the progress they have made in the language. All students were ready and eager to work together, and have create a wonderful food posters!

(Ugyanis mindkét örökbecsű 19.századi magyar irodalmi alkotás megtalálható a világhálón kiváló angol nyelvű fordításban.)
A saját kezű rajzzal elkészített munkák minősége és színvonala annyira jól sikerült, hogy azóta iskolánk folyosóját díszítik.

Finance day
Today, our grade had a really interesting presentation from Mr. David Tóth, a former SEK student. In the first lesson, he told us about how he realized money’s worth after finishing High school, and starting work while attending university. He told us that at first, he studied international law in Barcelona, but he didn’t like that so he rather went to study business at Corvinus University. After University he started working as a recruiter which he really enjoyed and later as a headhunter. He explained the difference between a recruiter and a headhunter, and that is that headhunters look for employees for multiple companies, whereas, recruiters only work for one company. He also told us about his current job at an IT company, where they are preparing a new app.
During the second lesson, he asked all of us to try and guess how much he spends on different things such as groceries, bills and sports, to name a few.
We worked together and in the end we guessed many spendings correctly. Some were surprisingly higher then we expected and some were lower. Mr. David showed us how we are going to spend and on what things when we start our own life and how to budget our money. He showed us an app which he uses to help him keep track of his spendings.
We definitely see that Mr. David worked a lot to get a salary like his and we learned that to be financially stable we will have to work a lot. In my opinion he gave us a clear picture of the financial world and motivation to be successful in life.

Whom we are proud of
The Fit-Kid Carnival Cup was held this weekend in Budapest, where Gerle Gergelyfi from 3B and her partner won the 1st place. The choreography of the performance is called “Hungarian Fables”.
They practiced combining acrobatics, soil gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and Hungarian folk dance in their beautifully decorated Hungarian folk art dress for the rhythm of the melodies of Hungarian folk tales.
They are aiming to further develop their practice with hard work so that they can continue to deliver this outstanding performance all this year.
It is a great dream for them to qualify for the European Cup this year to represent our country with joy and pride.
Well done Gerle, we are proud of you!
LITERATURE CORNER
In honor of our poetry unit and the welcomed presence of an earlier rising sun, the 11th grade IB English literature students were asked to flex their creative muscles once again and write about this image of a sunrise. The results varied and were as beautiful as the image itself. Enjoy!

Dear villain
Can you not see this?
This is us.
This is the glory you are eliminating
Without us, this is nothing.
This was not our deal dear villain
This was not our deal
You could have made us aware
Could you not?
At least, we could have said goodbye
Said goodbye to this glory.
No time is left
Now it is too late already
We are reluctantly waiting for your arrival, dear villain
Welcome dear villain
welcome...

PRESCHOOL CORNER
Open Day in the Preschool
Last Thursday we opened the doors to the public to let them get a glimpse of the day to day lessons we offer at SEK Budapest. The children were primed and prepped to show how much they knew to our classroom visitors.
Throughout the morning our guests were able to see how our three classes operate from our younger P1 class through to our school ready P3 class. Our current theme was spring and colours with our classes taking a closer look at the parts of a flowering plant and the colour spectrum.

Speed Challenge
MYP 2 completed a lab which investigated motion. The question was, how does average speed differ between hopping, walking, backwards walking and speed walking? This lab introduced the ideas of motion, distance, speed and average speed and let us practice using the formulas and graphing data.
Great job MYP 2.

Plogging at SEK Las Américas
Plogging is a new sustainable initiative born in Sweden that combines sports such as running with the care of the environment. The more than 20,000 people who practice it daily – in more than 100 different countries – collect the rubbish found on the ground when they go for a run. Do you dare to practice it?
On Saturday a group of families gathered at the school, to practice this new sport and contribute to ecology. Not only because of the nature of the activity but also, because we used eco-friendly plastic covers.
This activity impressed the students because they were able to create awareness of the waste that we ignore day by day.
