Write On, Door County Family,

Like much of the world, we here at Write On, Door County have been closely monitoring the developments of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and its spread. The safety and health of our participants, writers, employees and residents is our top priority. As such, we want to update you on what we're monitoring and any changes to events.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) recommends that all non-essential gatherings of 250 or more people be cancelled or postponed statewide to help protect Wisconsinites from the spread of COVID-19, particularly those who are most vulnerable to infection and severe disease. Write On, Door County's events do not fall into this category. DHS also supports the decisions of any event organizers that elect to cancel or postpone events with less than 250 attendees in order to protect their communities. Due to that recommendation especially, we are closely monitoring developments and will consider cancellation due to the following factors as a risk.

  • Potential for attendance from older adults, individuals with underlying health care conditions, or other vulnerable groups

  • Potential for attendance from individuals from a wide range of geographic areas across Wisconsin, the United States, or other countries

  • The setting of the event, particularly if it involves sustained interaction between attendees in close physical proximity

At this time, due to the projected high number of attendees we have withdrawn participation in the Tales of the Trade event at the Door County Brewing Co. tomorrow, March 14. At the time of this message posting, the Brewery plans to go forward with the event, however Write On will not be in attendance.

Currently, all other events will continue as scheduled, however that may change as the situation develops. We will keep you posted on any event cancellations based on what is recommended by our federal, state and local governmental authorities.  We will communicate updates via email, our website, Twitter, and Facebook should anything change.

Please know that we will be amending our refund policy going forward, as the scope of this pandemic warrants.  We strongly encourage all who are feeling ill to refrain from attending events, workshops, or conferences for the safety of all.

Many non-profits and arts organizations in Door County and around the nation will feel the financial strain this virus is affecting. If you decide to stay home from events for which you have already registered, please consider donating the amount back to the organization. The donation of your unused registration helps to support arts organizations financially at this time of uncertainty.

There are many resources available to us. Here's a list of useful organizations we've been relying on and encourage you to use and share with your community:

Community by community, the impact of COVID-19 is variable and rapidly changing.  We know how challenging this time will be for everyone, and we will face it together.  In the weeks to come, we will continue to share information, resources, and actions. Please feel free to get in touch with me to ask questions or share comments at lauren@writeondoorcounty.org | 920-868-1457.

Thank you for your continued support of Write On. We are wishing you and your communities safety, health, and hope.

Warmly,

Lauren Bremer                    Jerod Santek
