When you come the Gallery, we invite you to bring a sample of water from a source that is meaningful to you.
Since January we've been running WATER (re)SOURCE, a community incubator project that invites community participation. During the this ongoing project we are encouraging people to provide us with water samples from various locations in the Comox Valley, along with notes, stories, essays or poems about why the water source is meaningful. We have had a positive response, so we're keeping the project going in the CVAG COMMUNITY SPACE. Small water sample bottles are available at CVAG or bring in your own container. An art making station is also available for making a contribution to accumulating repository for water.
One of the most interesting items we received was a water sample from Russia. It was sent to us by Claire Sanford, originally from Texada Island and currently residing in Siberia. She filled a vodka bottle with water from Lake Baikal, the largest freshwater lake by volume in the world. You can read Claire's short essay, and view all the other submissions, while WATER (re)SOURCE runs until May 9.
