Hydro storage in both islands has continued to decline over the last week, with South Island at 110% of average, and North Island at 94%.
The full production outage of the Pohokura gas field commenced on 11 March, and the drop in production can be seen on the GIC website. This outage will continue until 24 March when production at the onshore site will resume, but the offshore pipeline will remain on outage for a further 1-3 weeks. The offshore pipeline outage will see an approximate 60% reduction in gas supply from the field during this secondary outage window.
We have now published the draft 2020 Security of Supply Annual Assessment for consultation. In this year’s annual assessment, the scenarios have remained largely consistent with those used in 2019, with similar themes retained. Supply and demand assumptions have been updated and additional sensitivities have been explored. The consultation closes on 26 March and a final version of the report will be published before 30 April.
