ASLSC Rip 12 March 2020

2019-2020 ASLSC Calendar
2019-2020 PATROL ROSTERS
2020 Sunsmart Masters and Country Championships
Congratulations to all of our 70+ competitors who competed at the recent 2020 SunSmart Masters and Country Championships. The weekend certainly threw a number of challenges our way with programming and event changes on top of the dreadful conditions on Sunday.  I give true testament to the culture of the club with competitors and supporters taking it all in their stride and remaining  committed to representing the club. Albany had an enormously successful weekend with strong performances and lots of medals across the age groups. Enormous congratulation to everyone. Pretty proud to see the breadth and depth of good sportsmanship and camaraderie across all ages. Well done also to our Nippers who qualified for the Sunsmart Surf Life Saving Nipper State Championships. Lots of first time qualifiers so a credit to AGMs and coaches in building skills and fitness in our Nippers! Be sure to check out results for both carnivals here!

These challenges however, did put an enormous strain on our existing commitments between patrol, water safety for the triathlon and both Masters and Country Championship Carnivals. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all members who provided support over the weekend. Coaches, Age Groups Managers, Coordinators, Water safety, Officials, patrolling members..... this list goes on...and this is on top of the planning and organisation required in the lead up to to get 70+ members to a carnival, deliver patrol on a busy long weekend and support a community event. Many thanks to you all.
Over the course of the weekend, I need to highlight that there were a number of these individuals who went well above and beyond in this space and  who put in hours if not entire days (or both days) to support Albany SLSC and ensure all events were delivered when able and in what ever location it needed to be. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for the support and commitment you  have for our club and the professionalism you displayed to get the job. You all rock. You are such wonderful members of our club and great role models to our youth and nippers. Sincerely...thank you!

Albany Senior Club Championships
Congratulations to all our Seniors Club Championships competitors last weekend. Whilst conditions were rather ordinary, it was fabulous to see good numbers with some youth coming down to support the days activities. Thanks also to Ian Woods from Ryde Building Company for joining us for the morning. Ryde Building Company are the club Seniors Competition Sponsor and have been supporters and sponsors of the club for many, many years now. We thank them for this much needed ongoing support. Please remember to support the business that support your club!

The club relies heavily on many of our senior members to provide the much needed support to our Nipper program through Age Group Managing, Coaching, Coordination and the provision of water safety each Sunday. Whilst we appreciate feedback from our members regarding the impact on expected Nipper activities, Nipper activities were not scheduled for this Sunday. The club do need to balance the delivery of programs to the benefit of all of our members. Last Sunday was all about our Seniors and their opportunity to shine and compete within a friendly club environment.

2020 SunSmart State Nipper Championships
Best of luck to all of our Nipper competitors heading up to Scarborough this weekend for the State carnival. I am sure you will all do Albany proud. Go Albany!

Community Happenings
2020  .... Albany SLS club is taking simple steps towards sustainability and we need your help.

Some simple steps we will be taking here at the club include:

Introducing recycling bins for bottles, cans, card and paper.

We encourage you to bring your own reusuable coffee cup

Composting bin for waste food on Sundays and functions.

Please note: there are 3 recycle bins, one will be located in the bar area and one outside the canteen on Sundays. They have yellow lids and are labelled with a recycling sticker. The bottles and cans MUST be empty before putting in  bins. Please completely fill one bin before the next one is filled, as the club pays Cleanaway per bin to empty. Encourage your fellow clubbies to do the right thing.

If any one is interested in taking home the waste food for compost on Sundays please contact  Corinne 0428376527

There are also plans to arrange a beach clean up in the New Year.

Club also hopes to sell 'keep cups'  in club colours for those that don't already own a keep cup.

Thank in advance for getting 'on board' with looking after the future of our amazing Albany and beyond!

Please contact Corinne with feedback about the new plans and/or any other issues around  sustainability
