Message from directors

We are facing difficult times. A lot of us work from home, others are working in hectic circumstances in hospital. Many meetings and PhD graduations have had to be postponed. However, researchers at Amsterdam UMC, VU and  AMS together find inventive solutions to continue the work as much as possible.  With creativeness and good will, we will find a way to achieve our goals. We wish you all the best. Stay safe and keep on moving. Frans Nollet and Mario Maas.

Consequences of Covid-19 for research
Externally funded research projects
The Amsterdam Research Board (ARB) and AMS are making an inventory of the problems that have arisen. We ask researchers who experience delay in their research projects due to the pandemic, to register the projects and the problems that arise. Please register the problems using this link by April 5. 2020 at the latest. Researchers who have not yet been in contact with funding bodies are advised to contact them if the current situation leads to stagnation of the research. Note that this is the responsibility of the project leader. Amsterdam UMC Researchers can check out a special research page on intranet. VU researchers who experience project delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be informed of any consequences this will have for their projects by their faculties, heads of departments or sub-departments.
AMS funded projects
We request researchers to report to us any AMS projects that may be delayed as a consequence of the pandemic. An Amsterdam UMC policy is in the make on how to deal with the situation. More information will follow as soon as possible.
Reduction of working hours for PhD Candidates
VU PhD candidates should turn to their supervisors and (sub-)department heads for information. Amsterdam UMC PhD candidates:  Amsterdam UMC will inform you about this shortly.  This matter will be handled on an institutional basis, not on an individual level.
AMS Annual Meeting postponed
The AMS Annual Meeting will be rescheduled for early 2021. We will keep you informed.
AMS Talent Call postponed
The internship Call for AMS PhD Candidates and MSc Students is postponed until futher notice. We will keep you informed.
COVID-19 research projects
All planned studies on COVID-19 must be centrally registered with the Amsterdam Corona units clinical trial center that is being set up to coordinate clinical research on COVID-19 and to support the PIs and clinical departments in conducting COVID-19 research. The Coordinating Committee for Clinical Trial Research will advise on the participation of Amsterdam UMC in ongoing COVID-19 research. Amsterdam UMC has created a Corona Research Fund. Use this email to register your research.

Post Intensive Care Toolkit
The Post intensive care toolkit that can support the paramedical treatment of Covid-19 patients after discharge from hospital. REACH stands for 'REhabilitation After Critical Illness and Hospital Discharge' and is a research project initiated by Amsterdam UMC and the Lectorate Rehabilitation in Acute Care of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Marike van der Schaaf (AMS) is involved in the research of Post intensive Care Syndrom (PICS). REACH comprises a regional network of first and second-line professionals involved in the rehabilitation of complex patients after hospitalisation. Professionals in the network are trained in the specific complex problems of patients after intensive care (IC) admission. In the context of the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), the REACH network provided their 'Post intensive care toolkit', which can support physiotherapists and other paramedics in the treatment of these patients after the hospital phase. The Toolkit is a dynamic database and will be regularly updated as new material appears.
