A scene from Stories on March 8! All seven Kokopelli Choirs were joined by special guest Sherryl Sewepagaham and the amiskwaciy Academy Singers.

Kokopelli Choirs bring stories to life at the Winspear

Kokopelli Choirs returned to the Winspear Centre stage to deliver their signature Stories concert on Sunday, March 8. The annual concert’s theme provided a broad choral canvas to explore significant moments, perspectives and traditions through song. At the concert’s finale, voices from the seven ensembles came together en masse to perform three contemporary First Nations compositions by Cree-Dene artist Sherryl Sewepagaham.

It was a delight to sing to a big audience in the beautiful Winspear!

Kokopelli sings in Saskatchewan

At the beginning of February, Kokopelli participated in a 4-day tour to Saskatchewan.  The first stop was for a workshop/sharing session with the Greystone Singers at the University of Saskatchewan. Knox United Church in Saskatoon was gracious to lend rehearsal space as well.  The next two days included a workshop at LeBoldous High School, and a shared concert and small group and massed choir workshops with Campbell Collegiate in Regina.   This concert was sold out and was live streamed to a larger audience as well.  In Regina, Kokopelli was hosted with such love and care by Russ and Deidre Baird. The singers and chaperones stayed at All Saints Anglican Church, right across from Campbell Collegiate.  The choir was so thankful to have this terrific time of sharing in Saskatoon and especially to experience Regina.

ChandraTala's Songs in the Sanctuary

On Saturday, February 29, ChandraTala was a featured ensemble in Edmonton's SkirtsAfire festival celebrating women artists. The choir performed wonderfully alongside Bella Voce of Concordia University Edmonton and local singer-songwriter Maddie Storvold. What a thrill to perform alongside such great musicians! ChandraTala and Bella Voce also joined forces on a couple of mass choir pieces, including one by our very own Laura Hawley, conductor of ChandraTala.
