Annual General Meeting – a message from the Chairman

The agenda for the forthcoming Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 18 March 2020 at the Macdonald Drumossie Hotel, Old Perth Rd, Inverness IV2 5BE is online here, as well as the programme for the afternoon seminar Deer Populations, Deer Management and Climate Change.

Please note the new venue for this year's AGM.

All members/representatives of DMGs are welcome to attend.  Please advise Helen Polley if you intend to be there for the morning AGM and/or the afternoon seminar.

As usual the formal business will include Committee elections for our Regional Representatives. Current Regional Representatives and Deputies are as follows:

Area 1 (North Highlands) Tom Chetwynd; deputy vacant
Area 2 (Ross-shire) Randal Wilson; Willie Fraser
Area 3 (Central Highlands) James Adamson; Drew Macfarlane-Slack
Area 4 (Cairngorms & Grampians) Colin McClean; Julian Clark
Area 5 (West Highlands) Lynda Campbell; Alistair Gibson
Area 6 (South Perthshire) Tom Turnbull; Falcon Frost
Area 7 (The Islands) David Gillies; deputy vacant

Representatives are appointed for two years and Areas 2, 4 and 6 fall due for re-election at this AGM.  While those listed above have indicated their willingness to stand again, I would invite other nominations for any of the above Area 2, 4 and 6 positions.

The position of Vice Chairman also falls due for election on a two-year cycle.  Tom Turnbull has indicated his willingness to stand again and I shall be proposing him for re-election but other nominations are invited.  As I indicated at the last AGM it is my intention to stand down from the position of Chairman next year at the 2021 AGM at the end of my present two-year term.

Please, in respect of any of the above vacancies, including the position of Vice Chairman, send nominations to the Secretary in writing, per Helen Polley, by email or otherwise, not less than seven days in advance of the annual General Meeting, ie by 11 March 2020.

You will note that the agenda includes a panel Q and A session at the end of the morning.  This will be an opportunity for questions from the floor and it would be much appreciated if questions could be submitted in writing to the Secretary (as above) not less than seven days before the AGM so that we can ensure a good spread of topics and avoid any duplication.  I anticipate that many questions may relate to the SNH and Deer Working Group reports but, time allowing, questions from the floor on any matters raised during the morning or any other points will also be welcome.

Finally, no-one can be unaware of the Coronavirus situation.  We will be keeping a close eye on developments and should there be a major escalation it may be necessary to consider postponing the AGM.  For the moment however the intention is to go ahead as normal and any decision to the contrary will be made and communicated by the end of next week, Friday 13 March.
