Dear friends of Art on Sedgwick,
We’re honored to work side by side with founder Charlie Branda, and proud to share her TEDx talk. Charlie relates our vision for Art on Sedgwick and provides a glimpse of the art and work that is drawing our diverse Near North neighborhood together. Our story is a reminder that, with a little mud and imagination, change – and even miracles – are possible. Together, we can make change happen with our hands. We invite you to watch and share.
On behalf of the AoS Board,
Jeff Dagbo, Board Chair

Thank You
Our art show opening / fundraiser was a great success. Special thanks to our exhibiting resident artists, the MFG Dance Performers (and their coaches from Dance Peace and All About Dance) and to the teen artists who got us all talking and sharing our stories. The exhibit will be open the rest of the month, so please come visit. If you'd still like to donate, visit here.

Art + Impact
Freedom, Stories, and Perspectives of a Community
This semester, teens in our Art + Impact program are creating artwork inspired by William Walker's "All of Mankind" mural and stories from our neighborhood's history. To that end, we're delighted to have guest artists from Lookingglass Theatre Company -- founding ensemble member Andy White and teaching artist Osiris Khepera -- working with the teens to explore the essence of freedom and to practice their writing and interview skills for a final presentation.
|
|
Thanks to Lookingglass Theatre Company, the teens also had an opportunity to see a special preview performance of Her Honor Jane Byrne. The play, which explores different perspectives on Cabrini Green during the 80's, provided a deeper understanding of our neighborhood history and many themes for deeper exploration. See a review of the play here.

ERASED FROM OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, PRESERVED IN OUR MEMORY
William Walker's 1973 mural "All of Mankind" explored themes of unity -- and disunity -- of the human race. Located at the edge of the Cabrini-Green development and a couple blocks from Art on Sedgwick's studio, the mural featured one of Walker's recurring motifs: four faces representing different races and genders, interlocked like Venn diagrams in a bond of equality.
