Blanchfield Memorial Ceremony Reminder/Dinner Update

Dear Friends,

Blanchfield Memorial Ceremony To Be Held This Sunday
Just a reminder that  the Sons and Daughters of Erin will hold a Memorial Ceremony for Irish aviator William Blanchfield at noon, this Sunday (March 8) at the Veterans section of Mountain View Cemetery, off Stoker Avenue in west Reno (just past the roundabout near the cemetery office).

We are  expecting to have several descendants of William Blanchfield and will be honored to have Bagpiper Sean Cummings performing for us at the ceremony.

The RGJ did a story on our annual ceremony a few years ago honoring the Irish aviator and explains the history of this tradition.

A Few Walk In Dinner Tickets Are Available
I am pleased to report that our reservation count for our 51st St. Patrick's Day Dinner & Show which will be held tomorrow (Saturday, March 7, 2020) at Circus Circus Hotel/Casino hit 175, which is a record high in recent years.

Since Circus Circus gives us a small amount of "overs" that we can use for last minute reservations and walk-ins, we will be able to accommodate a few more attendees. However at this late date there are only a few single seats available at our table as we are pretty full. Call in your reservations directly to Willie Puchert at 775-378-0931.  Cost is $55 for adults and $25 for children (12 and under) at the regular price.  Additional fees for credit card transactions.

Special Rate On Hotel Rooms
Circus Circus is offering a 20 percent discount on rooms for our dinner. Call 1-800-648-5010 and ask for rate code: SDE2020.  Here is the link for people booking online. You can book up until the day of the event.

For those of you who are planning on coming to the dinner and might have some questions, please click on this link to read the answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about our dinner. If you have further question, do not hesitate to call me at the number above.

Care Package For One Of Our Members
One of our club members who will be honored at our upcoming St. Patrick's Day Dinner & Show on March 7 will not be able to attend because he is currently deployed overseas in the U.S Army.

We thought it might be a nice idea to send Kirk Holden (recipient of this year’s Hugh Lantz Award) and his fellow soldiers a care package so we are asking those of you who are attending our dinner and upcoming March events if they could bring the following donations to send to him:
  • Flushable Wipes
  • Pocket Tissue Packs
  • Beef Jerky
  • Whole Bean Coffee
One of the tenants of SADOE's mission statement is that we are a patriotic group and I can't think of a better way of showing that spirit then to send a few items that will support our troops and especially one of our own.

We will have a box at our dinner and upcoming March events to accept your donations.

Sláinte

Willie Puchert
SADOE President
