Under one roof.

This week
On the podcast, Amina interviews Glennon Doyle, who is a great conversationalist, a woman who really understands the power of emotions, and a compelling storyteller. (If you can't get enough Glennon, you can also listen to my interview with her from last year.)

I'm reading
Preparing for coronavirus isn’t about shutting yourself in—it’s about reaching out. A woman who teaches people how to live in the Stone Age. "We are living in a time of radical destabilisation of life on Earth which complicates the act of bearing children in ways that society has yet to grapple with." Every human on Earth is ingesting nearly 2,000 particles of plastic a week. A facial-recognition startup goes from tech party-trick to government spying tool. Is The New York Times a news monopoly? For the first time, the most prestigious prize in architecture goes to two women. "Now don’t get me wrong, I love Elizabeth Warren..." I devoured this interview with director Céline Sciamma. A Kraftwerk album acts as a bridge between generations in India. A pub quiz empire. The exhausting, lucrative world of childhood sleep consulting. I can't wait to read Jessica Simpson's memoir. The case for minivansGirl Scout cookies, and boob lamps.  On marrying into money. The devastating effects of a life spent dieting, and how do you live online as a person unhappy with your weight? "I don’t think it’s enough to save our lives in the present; I think we need to reach ourselves in the past."

I’m looking & listening
One of my favorite podcasts of last year, The Last Bohemians, is back with season 2! The Internet Archive's 1990s VHS vault. Mona Chalabi illustrates the worst landlords in New York.

Crawling steadily toward the weekend, in community.

I endorse
Creating the community you need. I love this beautiful essay, by my friend George McCalman, about how and why he created Black Brunch Club in San Francisco. As he wrote on his Instagram this week, "The hope that I have is that folks feel empowered to produce the world that they want to see for themselves. And also, that the desire for community isn’t an individual thing. It’s not just your responsibility to create; everyone else wants that, too." If you are craving a specific type of community, there's a good chance that other people are, too. You just have to find each other.

IRL
March 25, Los Angeles: I'll be talking to Jordan Kisner about her new essay collection at Skylight Books.
