tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🛁 Taking a deep breath. This past week was a doozy and
you deserve to relax more than ever on this #SelfcareSunday. So turn on the mindless YouTube videos, wear your comfy pants, and of course do a sheet mask.

🛋️ Making the most of it, whether we want to be indoors or not. Enter
94 (!!) fun things you do at home anytime and without spending a dime. Top of our list: take a nap (and probably make plant babies too).

🍳 Meal prepping whatever we can find.
These dinners are already hanging out in your pantry and no, it's not just making boxed mac and cheese (which we do love too). But savory waffles, curried chickpeas, and Thai rice porridge sound soo much better.

💤 Still sleeping in. Daylight savings did us no favors, but it could be the little nudge needed
to finally become a morning person, which starts with getting a good night's sleep and learning to skip the snooze button.

bedtime stories

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

LIFESTYLE  For when it's not all doom and gloom ~ In case you missed it, good news did happen last week to bring some joy during these weird times. "For A Moment, Red Wine Flowed From Faucets: Last Wednesday, thanks to a malfunction at the Cantina Settecani winery, residents of the northern Italian town Castelvetro had vino flowing from their faucets for a few precious hours. If you find peace in the fact that you, too, could have Pinot barreling down your pipes, you're not alone. Castelvetro's deputy mayor Giorgia Mezzacqui told CNN, 'At a time where we have very little to smile about, I'm glad we brought some levity to others. Hopefully some day they'll remember us and will want to come visit us.'"

COMMUNITY  For when we need to lean on each other more than ever ~ Even at our social distance. This is a time for solidarity. "If you’re among the less vulnerable, it’s tempting to ignore most of this. Why suffer the inconvenience if the personal risk is low? The only answer is that others are counting on you. And it’s almost certainly true that someone in your life — a parent, a grandparent, a friend with an existing medical condition — is counting on the people in their community to do the same. Because all of us, even the most at risk, will have to venture into the world at some point, and the fewer infected people there are, the safer everyone will be. Halting this virus is a collective task no matter how you look at it. It’s hard to accept this idea without a vision of civic belonging. We have to care about other people, and they have to care about us. This is the world we’re in for the next several months and everything turns on our willingness to embrace it."

SELF  For when we're looking on the bright side ~ Go ahead and cancel your plans for the foreseeable future because your inner homebody was prepared for this. "I’ve never been one for big events, preferring to have a few friends over for at-home drinks and Samin Nosrat's focaccia rather than piling into a packed Brooklyn house party and making stilted conversation with a friend-of-friends I’ve met four times who never seems to remember my name. Social distancing feels like an excuse to instead do exactly what I prefer. For the first time, I feel zero guilt about blowing off a friend’s new boyfriend’s roommate’s birthday when I’d rather be home. 'CDC orders,' I can say with a shrug over FaceTime, secure in the knowledge that I’m protecting the health of more-vulnerable populations (while, conveniently, cooking winter squash carbonara and watching Love Is Blind)."

FUN  For when Spring is on its way ~ So are other good things to look forward to, according to your horoscope. "Happy Spring Equinox! Aries season (and the astrological new year!) arrives on the 19th as we reset the cosmic clock and make our resolutions. We’re feeling energized and ready to move ahead with even our loftiest goals ... What happens this spring gives us a preview of the structural changes that are on the horizon, for us individually and as a collective. Saturn in Aquarius (2020 to 2023) will be about technological innovation, community building and advocating for our beliefs. For now, let’s get organized!"
