tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

😂 LOL-ing from our home office. Many of us are working from the confines of our home, and we might as well have a little chuckle while doing it.
Enjoy some memes that are all too relatable right now.

👚 Upgrading our work clothes. WFH has its perks, such as no need to get dressed! But in all seriousness, comfy clothes are crucial in this new routine and
these pieces make for great "living-room-business-chic" attire.

📚 Binge-reading our way through the week. Transform that power (and time) of binging a Netflix series into one or several of these short books. Our personal picks: Jenny Offill's Dept. of Speculation and Margaret Atwood's The Edible Woman.

🛋️ Redecorating for #WellnessWednesday. Your space could use some self-care too.
Turn it into your personal sanctuary by adding the warm glow of candles in every room and doubling up on the pillows.

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

 CAREER
For when it feels like the distractions are endless ~ Our brains have four different states of concentration. By knowing and acknowledging them, the better we can improve our focus. "The ultimate goal of attention management is to recognize which brain state you’re in and then shifting to the one that will help you produce your best results in that moment, says [Maura Nevel Thomas, author of Attention Management: How to Create Success and Gain Productivity – Every Day]. Each of the four brain states has a related amount of attention and effort or control. For example, if you are in a reactive and distracted state while you’re trying to work on a project, you won’t be able to get traction. This state is not conducive to focused work. But if you can recognize that’s where you are, you can take steps to move into a focused or mindful state."

HEALTH  For when we are what we eat ~ Flaming Hot Cheetos included. Being hangry is a familiar feeling for most (probably all) of us. Here's why it's happening and how to avoid it. "The most obvious solution is to eat and make sure there’s always something left in the tank to stave off the hunger pangs. But don’t just grab the nearest sugary chocolate bar or bag of chips. There are snacks that are better than others. According to dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner, the best snacks include a mix of high-fiber produce, whole grains, and protein. The following combinations work wonders: mangoes and pistachios, apples and almonds, bananas and walnuts, and cherry tomatoes and string cheese. Aim for balanced meal ratios. When you eat this way, energy and fuel are like a time-released vitamin, slowly trickling into your system for hours."

RELATIONSHIPS  For when Tinder is no match to a real life meet-cute ~ If rom-coms can do it, then why can't we? At least according to one woman who actually tried to live through all the classic rom-com movie tropes for a week. "I started thinking about what makes romantic comedies the satisfying viewing equivalent of biting into a piece of 10-layer chocolate cake. They’re full of predictable tropes like implausible meet-cutes and guaranteed happily ever afters, but they somehow always make you ravenous for more and more bites of the same. And after watching that movie’s bookish protagonist Lara Jean Covey once again find herself in the arms of high-school heartthrob Peter Kavinsky, I started to brainstorm ways to bring that movie magic to my IRL love life. Because I, much like Lara Jean, love love and refuse to believe that it’s 'nothing like how it’s portrayed in the movies.'"

FUN  For when a little *chaos* keeps things interesting ~ There's no doubt that our zodiac signs are out of whack with everything going on and during the March to April turnover. "Spring into Winter is perhaps the most existentially nauseating seasonal changeover. It’s the only time of year that, symbolically, moves counterclockwise from death into birth. It sits right at that uncomfortable intersection, forcing a confrontation between two states of being that cannot reconcile. It’s philosophically harrowing, and, even worse, it’s really hard to know what jacket to wear outside. To properly celebrate and digest the entropic nature of this season, I’ve described each sign according to the Chaos tranche of the Alignment Chart. This is you at your Chaotic Good, Chaotic Neutral, and, of course, Chaotic Evil."
