November 2011 Newsletter
This month's newsletter has a distinctly competitive flavour! The University Lifesaving Season has already started, with Bath and Bristol both heading down to the Freshers Competition in Southampton - keep reading to find out how they got on. There are also loads of lifesaving competitions coming up - both in the local area and as far away as the Czech Republic. If you have never taken part in a lifesaving competition before, there has never been a better time to start!

I know many RLSS A&NW lifesavers are interested in training as instructors. Keep reading for information on two courses that are coming up especially for you.

As always, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your news - we love hearing about all the amazing things that A&NW lifesavers get up to. Happy lifesaving!

Trip To The Czech Republic
RLSS West Region are running a trip to the Grand Prix Moravie lifesaving competition in the Czech Republic from 2-4 Mar 2012. The competition is open to RLSS members born in 1994-1998, and full training will be given so you don’t need any previous experience to take part in the trip. Further details are available here: http://rlsswest.org.uk/sport/czech-grand-prix/

University Freshers' Competition
Southampton University hosted the first competition of the student lifesaving calendar on the 29 Sept. Bath University LSC and Bristol University LSC both entered teams. The dry incident was based around a hit-and-run accident at a running track: the lifesavers had to deal with asthma, a heart attack and casualties requiring CPR. The wet incident was set at a flooded campsite; all the rescue aids were locked in a cage and the key was hidden at the opposite end of the pool! After the usual rope-throw and swim-and-tow relays, competitors took part in an obstacle relay swimming under 70cm deep plastic gates. Overall the three teams from Bristol Uni came 20th, 21st and 38th, and the two teams from Bath Uni came 12th and 24th out of 39 teams. What a great start to the year - keep up the good work guys!
