» Some Juicy News
Residents of Kingston went apple mad on 22nd October as they celebrated Apple Day in style. A host of fun and entertaining apple-related activities were held at Kingston Environment Centre, including apple bobbling, apple and spoon races, “pin the worm on the apple”, tasting competitions and apple art. Participants also got hands-on, crushing, and juicing local apples to take home their own fresh juice.
The event, organised by Abundance Kingston, was held to celebrate local varieties and highlight the amount of fruit waste in the borough. “Everyone has had so much fun; it is remarkable how many different varieties of apple are growing in back gardens across Kingston, and often sadly go to waste. In our ‘taste test’ we had 8 different varieties to try, including a delicious Blenheim Orange from Cranes Park Avenue and a crisp, sweetly aromatic ‘wealthy’ variety from Britannia Road!"

» From the Ground Up partners with Sutton Community Farm
From the Ground Up is delighted to offer vegetables from the Sutton Community Farm - a social enterprise community managed farm on 7.5 acres near Wallington, overlooking London City. Under 10 miles from Kingston-upon-Thames, we can't offer more local unless it is from your own garden. Sutton Community Farm was set up with the intention of providing locally grown organic produce and it is continuing to work towards this. Currently it is undergoing the conversion process and is following Soil Association guidelines. As such its produce cannot be declared ‘organic’ until certification is achieved. However, FGU has confidence that their practices are sustainable and in accordance with organic standards.

» New from the Transition Network!
A guide to embedding diversity and inclusion in Transition. For the past year, Catrina Pickering has been Transition Network’s diversity person, developing trainings networks and insights around Transition and how initiatives might better embed diversity and inclusion in their work. Sadly, the funding for her post recently came to an end, but before she moved on, we asked her to distil her learnings and accumulated wisdom into a guide for Transition initiatives. So, hot off the press, here it is, your fantastic, free, 25 page guide to embedding diversity and inclusion in your Transition initiative or community project.
