Tuesday, April 21
Tuesday, May 5

  • *Note that the next Board Meeting has been moved to Monday, March 16.
  • The full Meeting Schedule is available on the Meeting Schedules webpage.
  • Meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are held at Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Drive at Route 45 unless otherwise noted.
  • Residents are encouraged to attend meetings, as well as view them on the Village YouTube Channel and on Cable Access. Agendas and minutes are posted online.
  • Agendas are generally posted online by the Monday prior to each meeting.

Village Budget Discussions: During the next few Village Board Meetings, Trustees will review budget items and suggest changes in preparation for the next fiscal year, which begins May 1, 2020. Residents are encouraged to attend Board Meetings and review documents, which will be posted on the Village Financial Documents webpage as they become available. Note that due to time constraints, the budget discussion listed on the March 3 Committee of the Whole agenda was moved to the meeting scheduled for Monday, March 16. The March 16 meeting will consist largely of budget-related discussion.

Gardner School Project: On March 3, Gardner School appeared before the Committee of the Whole regarding their proposal to build a 16,055 square foot infant-through-prekindergarten facility at 2 East Phillips Road. School representatives presented information regarding their operations and changes they are willing to make to the building since their initial proposal to address concerns raised by the Village Planning & Zoning Commission (January 8 meeting). Given the nature and number of changes, Trustees sent the revised plans back to the Planning & Zoning Commission for further review and comment. (Village of Vernon Hills Village Board Meeting - 3/3/20)

Muni Golf Passes: Village Manager Mark Fleischhauer shared with the Board Kemper Sports' request to consider fee increases for Municipal Golf Course passes, which will be part of upcoming Budget discussions. Trustees noted that the current fee structure has been in place for several years without any adjustments or increases. Golf passes are expected to go on sale within a few weeks. (Village of Vernon Hills Village Board Meeting - 3/3/20)

New Assistant Finance Director: Martin Staszel was introduced as the Village's new Assistant Finance Director. He brings experience as a tax auditor for the Texas Comptroller's Office. You can reach Mr. Staszel at MartyS@vhills.org(Village of Vernon Hills Village Board Meeting - 3/3/20)

VHPD St. Baldrick's Fundraiser: Police Chief Patrick Kreis reports that a number of VHPD's finest will be participating in the Rock the Bald St. Baldrick's Fundraiser planned for Saturday, March 14 from noon to 2 p.m. at Hawthorn Mall. Donations are welcome. (Village of Vernon Hills Village Board Meeting - 3/3/20)

Advanced Disposal Spring Rate Chart: As reported earlier, the Village has extended our residential waste/recycling contract with Advanced Disposal, with additional services including food scrap/compost collection and electronics drop-off being prepared for an April 1 roll out. More information is available on the Village's Advanced Disposal Contract & Services webpost, on the 2020 Residential Guide to Waste and Recycling Collection, and on the Village Go Green webpage.

COVID-19 Preparation: The Village and all partners continue to be in contact with the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Lake County Health Department regarding appropriate procedures regarding COVID-19. Residents should note that thorough hand-washing is probably the most powerful weapon against COVID-19 as well almost other illness, including the flu. The Center for Disease Control and other health organizations note that if you become ill, the best course of action is to stay home and contact your doctor for next steps. Find helpful links on the Village's Illinois Taking Preventative Action to Limit Spread webpost.

Gun Locks Available: The Vernon Hills Police Department reminds all residents who are gun owners to secure their weapons. To that end, VHPD offers free gun locks, up to two per household. Locks can be picked up at the VHPD Records Window, 740 Lakeview Parkway, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. More information is available on the VHPD Firearm Responsibility webpage.

Senior Freeze: Property owners age 65 and older with total household income $65,000 or less are encouraged to apply for the Senior Citizen's Assessment Freeze. Learn more by viewing the Senior Freeze 2020 Outreach web article. While we are talking about our seniors, consider getting involved with the Vernon Hills Seniors Organization. The group meets in the lower level of the Village Hall. And check out the Senior Taxi Program, which offers subsidies for rides with American Taxi and 303 Taxi.

Community Voice Webpage: The Village has added a Community Voice section to the Village website. The page offers announcements and events provided by the community. To be included, please send your information to Social@vhills.org.

Attention Incoming Kindergarteners!

It's Registration Time

Children who turn age 5 by September 1, 2020 are eligible for public school kindergarten this fall. School attendance is based on where you live. Each school district has different procedures and schedules, with most schools requiring parents to provide proof of residency, a birth certificate, and other contact information. Remember, schools have no way of knowing what children are living in their district who might be ready to start school. Please be proactive and be ready for school this fall. Check the following links for information from some of our school districts.

Note that districts also require students to update each student's registration and enrollment information every year. Check with your district for more information.
