Stephanie Avett is Hilburn’s PTA Volunteer of the Year!
Here's our message from PTA President Sofia Lopez-Richert to the Wake County PTA Council:
Stephanie Avett is our Grounds and Gardens co-chair. You can see her impact all around our school in the learning garden, flower beds and front entrance. She dedicates her time weekly to the school grounds and learning garden to make our school both welcoming and hands-on. Stephanie is NC Certified Environmental Educator and Wake County Extension Master Gardener. She shares her knowledge with students by teaching gardening skills and by helping coordinate the school’s Green Team. She doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty to make Hilburn a better, greener school!
Stephanie will be recognized at the Wake County PTA Council Night of Stars on April 30. Thank you, Stephanie, for your service to Hilburn!

Run Club is back!
The spring session of the Middle School Run Club starts on Monday, March 23 and runs through Monday, May 18. The club will meet from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Those who are interested should stop by Room 509 to pick up a permission slip and get more information from Melissa Bowman.

Online ordering for new Hilburn Spirit Wear for spring is open. Order BY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11 so you'll have T-shirts and shorts for when the weather warms up.
The spring sale has new T-shirts designs to celebrate our 25th Anniversary, plus for the first time, we are offering a baseball T. Check them out! Plus we have basketball shorts for girls, boys, women and men. And a water bottle is for sale, too.

Spring Middle School Outing on March 20
The next Middle School Outing will be on Friday, March 20, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Jelly Beans, 1120 Buck Jones Road in Raleigh.

PTA Board members needed for fall
The Hilburn PTA Nominating Committee is recruiting volunteers for the 2020-2021 school year PTA Board. The PTA Board meets monthly and is involved with school programs and events all year long. Position terms are one-year, and serve from July 1 to June 30. Board members may serve two consecutive terms in a position. Elections will be held at the May General Membership PTA Board meeting.

Hawk Mascot names
Thanks so much for all your Hawk mascot name submissions! The 25th Anniversary Committee has narrowed down the list to four names. EVERYONE at school will have a chance to vote in class for the name they want for the Hawk! Start thinking about your favorite now. Here are the finalists:

New Hawk mural by the cafeteria
Watch for a new Hawksome 25th Anniversary mural designed by art teacher Ms. Cleveland that will be painted this spring! We're excited to see a blank wall transformed into awesome art. Thank you, Ms. Cleveland!

Winner of Canes tickets raffle
From the 5th Grade D.C. Trip Fundraising Committee:
The winner of the Canes Tickets Raffle is Isla Rodriguez! Congrats on winning the four premier center ice tickets and parking pass. Enjoy the Carolina Hurricanes game on Saturday, March 21.
Thanks to everyone who supported the 5th grade raffle. The Canes raffle raised $1,045 for the DC trip! A special thanks to all the volunteers who worked the raffle sales. Without the volunteers, we could not have made the sales to meet our goal of over $1,000.
