Commemorating Stories of Black Santa Monica
 
As construction moves along on the new Civic Center Multipurpose Field, the collaborative project to commemorate the history of the African American residents and business owners of the Belmar neighborhood continues. The Belmar neighborhood was formerly situated in what is now the Civic Center campus and a team has been gathered to develop art and interpretive elements and an educational program centered at the new Civic Center Multipurpose Field.

The Belmar History + Art project invites the Santa Monica community to an upcoming workshop:

Bring along friends and neighbors to learn how to preserve precious family memorabilia. Participants are encouraged to bring photographs, letters, and other flat artifacts and get them scanned and saved to a keepsake flash drive, or learn from Quinn Research Center co-founder Carolyne Edwards about family archiving and the Santa Monica Public Library about preservation techniques for your heirlooms.
