We love learning!

Our Winter Learning Program comes to a close today.  We have enjoyed nearly 100 young participants and look forward to announcing the grand prize winners next week.  Thank you to all who participated, and congratulations to everyone who finished their challenges and went home with a brand new book to keep for their home libraries.
Thank you for learning with us!
Some great news below...Read on!
Please feel free to contact me any time at jperrin@townofjaffrey.com.
Kind regards, Julie M. Perrin, Library Director - a.k.a. Ms. Julie
Our young engineers know there's nothing like teamwork!
A congratulatory letter from Congress really made our day!
We are so proud to be your center for lifelong learning.

Seed Library to open on EARTH DAY

Thanks to two grants and great donors!

Thanks to grant support from Seed Savers Exchange and UNH Cooperative Extension, and support from the Jaffrey Conservation Commission and a VERY generous private donor, our 4th Annual Seed Library will be the best yet, with more seeds than ever before, including organic and heirloom varieties.  Our Conant Interact volunteers begin seed sorting and packaging next week, and we look forward to the grand re-opening on Earth Day, April 22nd.
We are so pleased to be able to offer free seeds of so many varieties for you to "check out" for your own home and community gardens.

Sewing News!

Our second round of Sewing classes has just finished up, and thanks to our outstanding volunteers, it was very successful.  All ages learned new skills, and thanks to some space reconfiguration on the ground floor, the creativity doesn't need to stop when the class is over.
If you completed either of our sewing programs, or know how to sew but don't have a machine, you can now reserve a study room, complete with a sewing machine and notion basket to sew at the library!  Please bring your own fabric, pattern and a little know-how, because we won't have staff available to assist.  Two of our recent attendees have reserved the room with two machines and plan to sew together.  What a great idea!  Call Julie or Andrea for details or to make a reservation at 603-532-7301.

The Beatles Revisited After 50 Years

Thursday, March 19 at 11 am at the Jaffrey VFW

With folksinger/songwriter Volkert Volkersz at the Jaffrey VFW Friendly Meals

Volkert Volkersz was a budding Seattle folksinger at age 13, learning how to fingerpick the guitar in the style of Peter, Paul and Mary, when in late 1963 he was struck with Beatlemania. At age 15 he formed a duo and proceeded to learn and perform songs by the John Lennon/Paul McCartney team, as well as some by George Harrison.  Volkert saw the Beatles in performance twice, including their final performance before a paid audience at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 29, 1966. Over the years, Volkert has hosted tributes to the Beatles and even directed a group of high school musicians in a performance of the entire Abbey Road album. As a songwriter, Volkert cites the writing of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison among his biggest influences. Volkert will perform a selection of singalong favorites for this program. Some might even be danceable!

This all-music event is free and open to the public. Please contact HCS Friendly Meals at 603-352-2253 if you wish to make a reservation for the meal.
Special thanks to the Friends of the Library for sponsoring this event.

Bullet Journaling Monthly Meet-up

Whether you are new to Bullet Journaling, want to learn or share creative ideas for your journal, or just doodle in good company, our monthly meet-up, led by Ms. Erin is for you.

Bullet journaling is the "the analog method for a digital age," a life hack to track the past and plan the future, a creative way to be organized...

Bring your own bullet journals or use our materials.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Registration appreciated.  Ages 10 through adult.

Why take the 2020 Census?

From 2020CENSUS.gov: An accurate count of your community helps inform how hundreds of billions of dollars might get used each year for public services like clinics, schools, public transit, and hundreds of programs.
From your librarians: All those grants we get rely on good census data!  So does your representation in Congress. So does Library funding for things like Inter-library loan...  Make sure the Monadnock region is counted!

WE'RE HERE TO HELP!  The Census will largely be submitted online for the first time.  Not really a techie person?  Don't have Wi-Fi at home?  We will host drop-in sessions at the library throughout the month of April with designated computers and librarian assistance.  It only takes about ten minutes of your time, but it shapes everyone's future.

AARP Tax Help

Community Health Information and COVID-19

Misinformation spreads faster than illness. The Library and Town of Jaffrey have provided links on our websites to RELIABLE information on COVID-19, including an up-to-date map of the state of the outbreak. We also have resources for parents and caregivers for talking to children and reducing anxiety. (Click HERE.)
This is an ever-changing situation.  Rest assured that we have been in close communication with local and state health officials, and the library is prepared with an approved policy in the event of a pandemic, so that we can make adjustments if necessary to prevent the spread of illness.
Meanwhile, don't be surprised to see your librarians donning gloves and doing some extra cleaning. We have placed hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes throughout the library so you, too, can clean your work spaces when you visit.
If you are sick, please stay home!  We are always happy to extend due dates. The outside Book Drop is also available for your convenience.
Just as we do for bad weather, any changes in service hours will be posted on wmur.com, Facebook, and the library's website
Did you know that with the passage of the Town Budget at Town Meeting on Saturday, the Library will extend open hours until 8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays?
And we will be open at 10 am SIX DAYS a week during the summer!
