FRENCHTOWN HISTORY
From Fords to Pizza
Bill Ditschman (1915-1999) opened his Mobil station at the corner of Kingwood Avenue (Route 12) and Creek Road in 1946. He was an agent for Kaiser-Frazer automobiles, but he wisely switched to Fords in 1949. Those two beauties in the window are from 1955 or '56. Steve Kalafer bought Ditschman's Motors in 1976, then he bought Jennings Ford near Flemington in 1979 and moved his business out there, where it became the nucleus for his Flemington Car & Truck Country empire. Ridge Ryman took over his lease in Frenchtown and sold Fords there until 1982. Catanzareti's pizzeria opened there, followed in 1989 by Napoli Pizza and Italian Restaurant, which still thrives under the affable ownership of Benny Lubrano and Sal Mancino.

Celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph or La Festa di San Guueseppe with traditional Zeppole di San Guiseppe
3/19/2020
Pre order special $2.25 each by 3/10

The holiday's roots date back to the middle ages, when Sicily underwent a major drought that threatened a massive famine. The locals prayed to their patron saint to bring them relief in the form of rain. In exchange, they promised to honor St. Joseph (the husband of the Virgin Mary and also the patron saint of pastry chefs!). with a proper banquet. Sure enough, he answered their prayers. In return, they feasted on local food and sweets such as these delicious Italian Pastries.
