Message from the Board

Dear Timberline families,

On March 5, the LWSD issued this communication update:
Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is taking the following steps to balance the guidance from Public Health to continue regular school operations while limiting community events. Additionally, these measures enable our staff to focus on their essential duties in service of keeping our schools open.
We will take the following steps:
  • Cancel all volunteer programs and visitations during the school day.
  • Postpone or cancel all after school, evening and weekend events (This includes athletic competitions, dances, plays, open houses, and music concerts).
  • Postpone or cancel all field trips not already underway.
  • Cancel all non-LWSD building use (not field use).
  • Postpone all district professional learning which requires staff to leave their normal duties.
Following these mandates, these PTSA-sponsored activities will be canceled:
  • Traffic safety team will not be operating between now and March 18
  • Financial Literacy class canceled on March 9, March 16
  • Art Club canceled on March 10, March 17
  • Service Club canceled on March 18
  • All parent volunteering canceled until March 18
We are exploring online options for our PTSA General Membership meeting that is currently scheduled on March 17, please stay tuned.

Thank you for working with us as we navigate this fluid situation. We will keep you posted through our communication channels (Timberline Times newsletter and TMS PTSA Facebook page) with further updates.

News and Announcements

Seeking 20/21 Timberline Board Nominations

The Timberline Middle PTSA Nominating Committee is taking nominations for our 2020/21 PTSA Board of Directors. We are looking for energetic, dynamic individuals who can provide strong support to the school's students and staff as well as the school community.

These roles are a great opportunity to use your leadership, problem solving, fundraising, social, creative, and/or technical talents. You will have the in-depth opportunity to learn about our school and play an integral role in enhancing the academic, creative, and social experience of TImberline students. By partnering closely with the administration, teachers, and staff, you can help shape our programs and work with the community to advocate and fund these important initiatives.

No prior PTSA board experience is necessary. Training is available for all positions and you will have the full support of our current board, the district council, and Washington State PTA.

We need your help to ensure every student benefits from the PTSA's programs and activities and the PTSA can continue to steward our community's generosity in the most impactful way. If you are interested, would like to nominate someone, or would like more information, please contact nominations@timberlineptsa.org.
Submit nominations by March 16. All nominations are confidential.

Updates from the School

Updated School Calendar

Lake Washington School District has finalized plans to make up for the days and time missed due to the January snow events. The 2019-20 calendar has been modified to reflect the changes. The 2019-20 calendar has May 26 built-in as a snow make-up day, so a total of two days must be made up beyond the built-in snow make-up day.

Due to the canceled days (January 13, 14 and 15) the following changes will be made to the 2019-20 calendar:
  • Tuesday, May 26 is now a full school day. Previously, this was scheduled as a No School: Snow Make-up Day
  • Wednesday, June 17 is now a 1.5-hour early release Wednesday. Previously, this was scheduled to be a half day for the last day of school.
  • Thursday, June 18 is now a regular school day.
  • Friday, June 19 is now a Half-Day: Last Day of School
This new calendar means the last day of school will be on June 19, 2020 (and will be a half day). You can print the latest versions of the calendar here: https://www.lwsd.org/about-us/district-calendar.

This plan allows the District to maintain the essential components of staff training, planning, and collaboration time during early release Wednesdays and Full-Day LEAP days, while also keeping the last day of school within the same week as the original calendar.
