March 13 deadline to support our Conservation Authorities
This issue was brought to COCA’s attention at Thursday’s COCA meeting. We urge Clearview residents to complete the Provincial government’s survey on Conservation Authorities. Take the survey to help preserve and protect Ontario’s natural spaces. Your feedback will:

help further define conservation authorities’ core mandate of preparing against natural hazards, managing conservation authority lands and protecting drinking water sources
assist in improving overall governance, oversight and accountability of conservation authorities
be used to inform changes to the Conservation Authorities Act and associated regulations

Halton Regional Council recently endorsed a resolution calling on the Federal Government to refuse CN's proposal for a truck-rail hub in Milton and this month Mayor Burton, along with Halton's other four mayors and Regional Chair Gary Carr will travel to Ottawa to discuss the rail hub in person with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The resolution is based on the Federal Review Panel's assessment that the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects on air quality and human health and that additional significant effects are likely to occur. Truck traffic on Dundas will increase significantly.

Concerned residents are encouraged to contact their MPs and MPPS to make their voices heard. You can also join in the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #sayNO2CNhub.

Community Energy Plan accepted by Oakville Council
At a special council meeting, Oakville Town Council voted unanimously in favour of Oakville's Community Energy Plan to be accepted.

Oakville's CEP will help the town, residents and businesses work together to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions while strengthening the local economy and building an affordable and reliable energy future. The ultimate goal of the plan is to help us as a community:

use energy more efficiently and reduce waste
reduce energy costs
reduce greenhouse gas emissions
create more opportunities to attract businesses and jobs
increase the security of our energy supply
enhance our resiliency to climate change

Oakville continues opt out of cannabis retail stores
Town Council has voted to review, in one year, its decision to opt-out of allowing privately-operated cannabis retail stores in Oakville. We've requested that staff gather more details about the industry, as well as the pros and cons of retail operations. Our concerns around the Province not allowing municipalities to control the locations of cannabis stores through zoning rules remain and we've decided that this is not a decision to be made in haste and have opted for a wait and watch approach. Help celebrate Oakville's best and brightest volunteers for their contributions at the Community Spirt Awards.

These awards honour individuals, organizations, businesses and community groups who contribute to the life of our community. Nominations are open now and continue until Monday, April 20, 2020 at 4 p.m.
Nominate a community champion today.
