COVID-19: What We're Doing on the VIRGINIA V

We wanted to update our Members and friends on our current response to the outbreak of COVID-19 (Novel Corona Virus) in the Greater Seattle Area.

This month’s upcoming events:
  • NW Seaport Sea Chantey Sing on March 13th has been canceled by the organizers.
  • At this time, the organizers of the March 20th DRYFT concert plan to hold the concert on the ship as scheduled but are taking steps to mitigate risk to the participants.
We are monitoring recommendations from the State and County regarding public gatherings. As of March 11th, only gatherings of 250 or more have been prohibited. Event venues are asked to assure sufficient personal space between attendees at smaller gatherings such as the ones we hold on the ship. Any cancelations will be posted on the events page of our website and we will make an effort to contact ticket holders.

Here are a few important elements of our response to the situation:
  • If you purchase a ticket on our website for one of our upcoming cruises or events, you’ll receive a full refund if the event must be canceled.
  • If you are sick, please stay home. We’ll be happy to provide you a refund or credit for a future event if you cannot participate on a cruise or event due to illness.
  • Those over the age of 60 and people with underlying health conditions that might make them vulnerable to the virus are urged not to attend public gatherings of any sort. If you make the decision not to attend an event on the ship, please contact us for a refund or a credit toward a future event or cruise.
  • We are taking proactive measures to make sure that the ship is a healthy environment. We are sanitizing high touch surfaces frequently and will be encouraging frequent passenger and crew hand-washing and hand sanitizing aboard the ship.
We appreciate everyone's patience and support during this time. Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones and we look forward to seeing you soon.

From the Archives...

Above: Regular maintenance on the Virginia V’s 1904-vintage steam engine has always been a necessary task. This photograph of two engineers looking into the open Low Pressure Cylinder on the engine could almost be a photo of our engineers working today, until you notice the curved smoking pipe and the rather antique-looking electrical panel. In fact, this photo was taken some time in the late 1940’s, demonstrating that engineers have been working hard on Virginia V’s engine for a very long time.
