March 2020
CANCELLED -- ALTERNATE PLANS
The 2020 Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Making Expo scheduled for April 22, 2020 has been canceled, but students can submit research to share online.

Although we must cancel the in-person celebration, students can submit abstracts and posters to share their work on the Office for Undergraduate Research website. Graduating seniors who had planned to participate in the Celebration of Undergraduate Research as a way to complete requirements for the Carolina Research Scholars Program can submit their research to complete the program’s requirements. Opportunity: Apply for the Carolina Research Scholars (CRSP) Transcript Designation
Spring 2020 applications due May 1, 5 PM
CRSP provides the opportunity for undergraduates to earn a special transcript designation recognizing their engagement in research at UNC-Chapel Hill and preparation for research-related careers.  To earn this designation, students must complete a series of research requirements and complete the online application.  For information please visit https://our.unc.edu/become-a-carolina-research-scholar/.

Opportunity: Undergraduate Research Consultant Team (URCT) Proposals

Fall 2020 applications due May 1, 5 PM
URCT’s are small “strike teams” in any discipline who have a well-defined research question, outreach need, or design challenge that could be completed in a relatively short time period by an interdisciplinary group of 3-5 undergraduate students guided by a faculty advisor. Find out more at https://our.unc.edu/undergraduate-research-consultant-teams-2/.

If you are a student interested in participating in a URCT please complete the interest form.  If you want to form a team you can search for students by their expertise in the URCT Interest Database.

Opportunity: Apply to teach a Research Related Skills (RRS) Course
2020-2021 applications due May 1, 5 PM
RRS courses promote development of scholarly writing, critical scholarly literature review, and research presentation skills that are not part of the typical undergraduate research experience. Faculty approved to teach these courses receive a $3000 stipend and will participate in a faculty learning community that meets once a month throughout the 2020-2021 academic year.  To learn more and to apply please go to https://our.unc.edu/research-related-skills-courses/.

Funding: Summer Award for Research Intensive Courses

The Summer Award for Research-Intensive Courses is a tuition award offered for students to enroll in research-intensive courses during the summer (Maymester, Summer Session I & II). The award covers in-state tuition for a three-hour research-intensive course for the student and also provides a $1000 stipend for faculty teaching the mentored undergraduate research course. Eligible research-intensive courses must involve faculty-to-student, one-on-one mentorship. For more information, click here
