Palm Sunday rally for refugees 2020 2pm Sunday 5 April, Belmore Park
Nauru and PNG: End the torture
Permanent protection and family reunion
Speakers include:
Craig Foster (Football legend and "Game over" campaign) Most Rev. Vincent Long (Catholic bishop of Parramatta and Vietnamese refugee)
There are 400 refugees still stranded in PNG and Nauru after almost seven years. And another 1200 people from Nauru and Manus have been transferred to Australia, many being held in detention centres or hotels in Melbourne and Brisbane, in degrading conditions and without the medical treatment they need.
The problems for the 30,000 asylum seekers who arrived by boat before July 2013 and live in the community are also growing. Some face homelessness, left with no government support. All face permanent insecurity. Join us to call on the government to end the torture of offshore detention as well as detention in Australia and grant full resettlement rights to those already here. Help us promote the Palm Sunday rally
RAC is aiming to hit suburbs across Sydney this Saturday 14 March on our "Super Stall Saturday" to spread the word about the Palm Sunday rally for refugees and take the pro-refugee message into the suburbs.
If you can spare an hour or two that Saturday morning email us at info@refugeeaction.org.au and let us know your suburb so we can try to put you somewhere near home. If this date doesn't suit and you're still keen to help let us know, we are running other stalls and leafleting sessions too.
You can also help by taking a few posters and leaflets yourself to stick up at work or near where you live. Email us and we can post you some material, or download and print a poster here.
Inner West March for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
10am Saturday 21 March, Meet Enmore Park to march to Addison Rd centre
The Inner West Multicultural Network and the Addison Road Community Organisation are organising the inaugural ‘Inner West March and Festival for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination’ on 21 March.
We come together in the belief that we must challenge harmful forces that are growing in our society. We believe that a unified and diverse community, speaking up and taking action, shows the best way forward for all at this critical time. Refugee Action Coalition will have a contingent, come and join us. More info at the Facebook event here. Support refugee activists in Greece
The Greek government is trying to shut the border to thousands of desperate refugees from Syria who have travelled there after Turkey’s decision to allow them through. Please donate to support refugee rights activists in Greece who are demanding the government open the borders and end the brutal attacks on asylum seekers coming from Syria.
They need extra funds to allow refugees inside Greece to travel on buses from the camps to join the demonstrations. Fifteen buses are planned and each costs $600. Please donate to help them continue their work in support of refugees and to ensure the demonstrations planned are a success.
