Celebrate 48 years of innovation with Carousel Players’ Lig and Bittle

Please post and circulate to your networks!

11 March 2020Carousel Players, Niagara’s oldest professional theatre company for youth will continue to tell inclusive stories and cultivate a passion for the arts in St. Catharines. Lig and Bittle will be on stage in Robertson Theatre at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 11 April at 11am + 2pm.

Lig is very tall, and Bittle is very small. They both wish they could find someplace where everything is just the right size, where no one will notice that they are different. When Lig and Bittle hear about Perfeckt Phitt, they set out on a quest to this wonderful place where all their problems will be solved. Can Lig and Bittle overcome the Muckety Muck and the Ooga Monster to find the place where they both fit in?

Carousel Players was founded in 1972 by Desmond Davis, a professor of Drama at Brock University. Davis and his wife Faye came to Canada from Australia and created a theatre to serve youth in Niagara. Throughout their 40+ year history, over 2.8 million students, teachers and families have seen Carousel Players productions.

The troupe regularly perform in schools across Ontario and tour to theatres in London, Toronto, Orangeville, Port Hope, and Midland. They have also toured nationally to theatres and festivals in Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Calgary and Vancouver. Carousel Players award-winning plays have toured as far away as England and Japan.

Lig & Bittle is directed by Carousel Players artistic director Monica Dufault and will be touring to students this spring in Early Learning Kindergarten Programs (ELKP) through Grade 3. Themes and curriculum connections include: recognizing and valuing differences, developing positive self-image, standing up for oneself and for others, relating to others, resolving conflicts, and spatial sense.

During Family Day at the FirstOntario PAC, Carousel Players hosted a puppet-making workshop in The Recital Hall. The creativity continues with a puppet-making workshop at the Pen Centre on Friday 20 March between 1-4pm. Kids can make their own Ooga monster finger puppets and then bring it with them to the show!
