Afternoon Friend

Second Federal Assistance Package

The Federal Government has today released a second stage of its economic plan to address coronavirus impacts.  The media release is here.

I have also attached Federal Government factsheets (some of these previously distributed but now updated)

Delivering support for small business
Cash flow assistance for businesses
Payments to support households
Assistance for severely affected regions and sectors
Early access to super
Providing support for retirees
Providing temporary relief for financially distressed businesses
Supporting the flow of credit
Income support for individuals.

A new State Government factsheet re FIFO workers just arrived in my inbox this afternoon too.

Crisis Management Team

Oysters Tasmania's Crisis Management Team is meeting tomorrow afternoon so we'll send out an update straight after. We are already working on urgent priorities:
  • continuing to push HARD for levy waivers (I understand there will be a second Tasmanian package announced next week)
  • collecting information and data on how industry is impacted
  • getting advice on the state and federal assistance
We are also communicating directly with industry as information becomes available and I've been talking to the Ministers Office and Departmental Executive staff at least daily.  I would like to stress that we are receiving a lot of support from Minister Barnett who is aware of our current focus on levy waivers and reiterated this in a phonecall on Friday. I have also highlighted this will only be the first step of assistance.

On this note, it's also important to emphasise the importance of having Oysters Tasmania as the coordinating body for communicating with government.  This also means making sure we are capturing the stories and stats of our industry to keep us on the agenda.  An email I sent last week for example had two case studies attached - one directly from one of smallest growers

We will be sending out a survey to growers tomorrow - I would urge you to complete this so we can better represent you all.
