The Bridge - Impressions of Spring    20x24

This wonderful rock bridge spans Bear Creek in O'Fallon Park, Kittredge, CO.  I have painted this bridge over the years many times in spring, summer, winter, fall.  A quiet place to paint, a place to walk, to cross the stream and to take in nature and savor each season.

Wild Rose and Pseudacorus (yellow Bog Iris)   20x24

The garden of Charles Pickett is in Randles, Missouri. Here is a lifetime of paintings to be painted. Daffodils, tulips, flowering shrubs, thousands of varieties of Iris and Peony.  I have only scratched the surface as a painter in his garden and am deeply grateful to Charles for welcoming artists to share the wonder and beauty that he has created.

I long to return.

Spring comes late to the Colorado Rockies;
it requires patience.

A forecast of April showers, snow showers that is,
is in store for Denver this Easter.

Spring snow is beautiful and briefly hides the color and blossoms . The melt will nourish the next wave of flowers patiently awaiting their time.

Please take a moment and enjoy a slideshow of
spring-themed paintings I have put together for you :

Azaleas in a carpet of Grandeur - photoraph DS

I was taken on a car tour by my friends Cleda Curtis and Lynn Lancaster in search of Azaleas in Missouri. This is a friend's yard that has become a drive-through auto tour.  Years of planting and preparations have become a wonderful spring moment for many.

My phone is full of magnificent images from Charles Pickett's garden. He loves visitors and painters to wander his colorful rows.

In my spring painting travels,
I have found wonderful gardens and scenes of great beauty

Russian Painter's Spring

Sergei Bongart was my teacher, my mentor, my guru as he described it.  I apprenticed with him as a young man : the hungry sparrow being taught by the mighty eagle. Bongart's steps and brush strokes continue to guide, inform and inspire me. I want to share a few of his spring paintings with you.

Lilacs Front Porch         Isaak Levitan

Bongart introduced me to Isaak Levitan's work.

Isaak Levitan was a master painter from the old school.
He was friends with Serov.

His life was short, but his works remain powerful in their expression of poetic perfection in the landscape.

A  prayer

In this time of quietness let us listen to

the heralds of soft spring blossoms.

May we all see and be inspired

and renewed in hope.

Peace,
