Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep”
(John 10:11).

Dear friends in Jesus, our Good Shepherd,

Greetings to all of you in Jesus’ name. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

Some of Good Shepherd’s leadership met yesterday on a conference call to settle plans for the weekend and the ministry for the near future. To prepare for this meeting, we reviewed the actions of our government. We read the reports from our church body. We also had a conference call with our Houston-area churches.

Our WELS President, Mark Schroeder, reminded us of a few important points to consider:

  • The Fourth Commandment and other words of Scripture remind us not only to show respect and obedience to governmental authorities, but also to remember them in our prayers as they make decisions to safeguard our nation.
  • According to the Fifth Commandment, we have the responsibility not to do anything to hurt or harm our neighbor (or ourselves, for that matter), but to help our neighbor in times of need.
  • God’s Word reminds us of the importance and blessing of worship and encourages us to make faithful use of the means of grace.

With these in mind,
  • We are suspending our on-site face-to-face gatherings through April 3. Our leadership will continue to review this action and the resuming date. All on-campus services, classes, meetings and events are suspended.
  • We will release a video for worship on Sunday morning. Please watch and participate at your convenience. It will be available at: www.gslcthewoodlands.org/sermons
  • Do you have a prayer request? We want to pray for you. Contact us by phone, email, or fill out the form at: www.gslcthewoodlands.org/prayer
  • People have asked how they may continue to financially support the ministry at Good Shepherd. You may send offerings by mail. You may also give online at: www.gslcthewoodlands.org/give
  • Good Shepherd has a public Facebook page for visible posts. We also have a hidden private group for more personal communication with one another. If you do not yet have access to this, please contact us and we will send you an invite.
  • We will try to connect people online to our Bible Classes. We are planning to set up a virtual classroom for our Catechism Class and a Bible Class. We will connect privately online for Bible Information Classes.

We want to assure you that your pastors are here to serve you. Do you or someone you know have a spiritual need? Please call/text/email/Facetime us!

Please also let us know if any of you are in need of anything due to the pandemic.

Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). So much in this world feels so uncertain. It is easy to feel weary and burdened. Yet by grace we belong to Jesus, our Savior. Jesus invites us to: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Let us continue to go to Jesus in his Word and in prayer, finding rest in him. In Jesus, we have forgiveness, peace with God, and joyful hope of an eternity with him in a place that knows of no sickness or sorrow. May God bless you and strengthen your faith in Christ Jesus.

Serving Jesus with you,
Your Pastors at Good Shepherd
