A Bit of Wisdom

We’re always one push notification away from a global catastrophe, sure. But wasn’t that just something we’d deal with someday in the future? It was until it wasn’t. And now we’re here.

Many of us are struggling with what to say, or do, next. There's no rulebook on this one. But we can begin charting this uncertainty by asking ourselves: What matters most? Who matters most? And what type of world do we want to see on the other side of this? To start answering these questions, we — companies, organizations, people — could do worse than return to the values we’ve long-ago defined. If inspiring a broader culture is core to a business or a vision, examine why, and find authentic ways to live out those principles now. Coffee shops, for instance, aren’t only for blends of light roast; they’re about bringing a community together. Perhaps another core mission is to get people outdoors. That often requires equipment, but what it’s really about is providing the opportunity for people to gain a sense of accomplishment. How do we find a novel way, and different messaging, to inspire these things now? The most mileage here will come from ongoing communication that mixes passion, sincerity, imagination, and empathy through leadership that doubles down on original intentions and motivations. Let’s use these to rediscover and transform our values from words on a page to expressions and experiences that, together, carry us through.
