Ballard Multimodal Corridor

At the City, we continue to follow guidance from our partners at Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC), Washington State Department of Health (DOH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding COVID-19. We’re working round-the-clock to ensure our communities and our workforce can stay safe and healthy.

Currently, the Seattle Department of Transportation is planning to continue with construction in your area. We are working closely with our Public Health — Seattle & King County partners, our construction management teams, and private contractors to ensure that everyone supporting this project is cautious and safe. If there are changes to the construction schedule or planned work, we will notify you once public information is available.

The City of Seattle and King County are taking steps to protect the health of our community by making recommendations that are meant to slow the spread of novel coronavirus and reduce the number of people infected. Please learn more about COVID-19 at www.kingcounty.gov/covid. Thank you.

Businesses appreciate your patronage! Some businesses in our community remain open after the governor's statewide proclamation on March 15, including restaurants that are now offering take-out and delivery. If you are able, please consider supporting local businesses.
03/20/2020 – Ballard Multimodal Corridor Construction Update

On March 7, King County Metro crews began installing new trolley wires along NW Market St. Crews began at NW 54th St and are working their way east towards 24th Ave NW.
Upcoming work

King County Metro crews are scheduled to continue installing new trolley wires along NW Market St. Crews will not be working today, Friday, March 20 or Sunday, March 22. Once crews complete wire installation for eastbound buses, they will move to install wires for westbound buses, beginning at 32nd Ave NW and working their way east towards 24th Ave NW. We expect this work to wrap up in approximately three weeks.

SDOT is committed to completing the first phase of the Ballard Multimodal Corridor project. Remaining work includes pole removal and foundation demolition, vegetation and site restoration, and work near the Ballard Locks. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we continue to work to complete the project during this time. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Current traffic configurations along NW Market St will remain in place until further notice.

As work continues along the project corridor and limits space for cyclists on the road, please remember to share the sidewalk, practice social distancing measures, and be aware of your surroundings.

  • Typical work hours from 7 AM to 10 PM, Monday through Saturday

  • Temporary sidewalk and crosswalk closures with signed detours
  • Noise, dust, concrete odors, and vibration
  • Access to businesses and residences will remain open, driveway restrictions will apply
  • Work is weather dependent, so timing of work may change if needed
Stay connected Thanks for your patience and support while we complete this project. We’re working to minimize construction impacts as much as possible.
Information for businesses

The City of Seattle, Greater Seattle Partners, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce are distributing an Economic Impact Survey to further capture the effects of COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus, on businesses and non-profits in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties.  The Economic Impact Survey will identify early local and regional effects of COVID-19, inform strategies for regional economic recovery and development, and maximizing and allocating federal and state recovery aid. Businesses and non-profits are encouraged to complete the survey.

The City of Seattle is manufacturing signs to mark food pick-up load zones outside of participating businesses and is working to accommodate requests as quickly as possible. Businesses interested in having a loading zone sign should call 684-ROAD to place a request.
