COVID-19 Updates and Resources

Dear members of Ontario's touring and presenting industry,

We are continuing to work to support the sector through this challenging time, and have a few new pieces of information and upcoming events to share.

As you probably know, the provinces of Ontario and Quebec have both ordered all non-essential businesses to close. It is also very likely that schools in Ontario will remain closed past the original April 6th deadline. We will continue to monitor the situation and to keep you updated on our work with partners across the country.
Coming up Tomorrow:

Webinar: Digital Communications for Live Arts Presenters

         Making Tomorrow Better webinar banner
Our friends at the Atlantic Presenters Association have responded quickly to our changing contexts and are offering a free webinar on Digital Communications:

Without live gatherings, all of our lives have moved into the digital realm, it’s how we socialize, how we learn, how we are entertained, how we make money. In this time marked by self-isolation and staying at home, how do arts organizations foster deeper connections through digital relationships?

This (online) workshop will show you specific digital actions arts organizations can take right now to continue to be a vital part of their communities, and build strong relationships with audiences and the wider community.

Peer to Peer Conversations

During this crisis, our friends at PACT (the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres) are opening all of their online events to non-members. Their peer to peer conversations are a chance for colleagues who work in similar roles to gather and discuss shared concerns: Anyone from the Canadian performing arts sector is also invited to join PACT's weekly COVID-19 Town Hall, Thursdays at 1pm EDT.

Livestreaming and Digital Performances

Numerous ideas and projects are popping up to connect artists and audiences digitally. Here are a few projects that we've heard about; we will continue to add more to to the Resource Document.
  • #CanadaPerforms: Opportunity for performing artists from any discipline to apply for $1000 grants for livestreamed performances, through the NAC and Facebook Canada.
  • The Social Distancing Festival: A place to celebrate the work of artists who have had events cancelled due to social distancing measures
  • Urgnt.ca: Series of 19 concerts to be livestreamed from empty Toronto venues. Profits from associated GoFundMe will be divided among artists, technicians, and administrators involved to bring support to all levels of the industry
    • NOTE: Urgnt is seeking allies (artists, venues, sound technicians, and videographers to be involved). If interested, please reach out to mark@urgnt.ca
  • TO Live's Living Rooms: Every day, TO Live will feature different local artists playing performance from the comfort of their own living rooms

Thank you for being part of Ontario's live performing arts sector!
We appreciate you and we are here for you!
