Hello social distancing patrons!

All Fontana Regional Library locations in Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties are closed until further notice and will discontinue curbside delivery of previously reserved items after Saturday, March 21st. The public is encouraged to visit the Library website at www.fontanalib.org for information on eBooks and other electronic resources that remain available even when libraries are closed.

This decision is consistent with Governor Cooper’s call for all public schools to close. In evaluating information that indicates that aggressive early social distancing can stop the coronavirus from exponentially spreading, library leadership is making this difficult decision. Currently we plan to reopen on April 1, but will be continually assessing the situation to determine if this date will be extended.

Overdue fines for materials due during this time will be waived, and all due dates have automatically been extended. Please do not return any items at this time.

Some library services continue even while the buildings are closed. eResources, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, and streaming video via Kanopy and NCLive are still available at www.fontanalib.org. If fines blocked the use of your card previously, please try again now, as limits have been increased so that more people can get to the electronic resources they need. In addition, the Library’s eBook collection has been expanded to help meet increased demand.

For people without internet access at home, public Wi-Fi extends around the perimeter of library buildings and can generally be picked up from sections of the parking lots.

Anyone who does not have a library card but needs one to use eBooks or other electronic resources should go to the “about us—contact us” section of our webpage and submit your request for a card. Please include your name, date of birth, and a phone number. You will receive an email with your account number and instructions for using eResources.
