Vernon Hills residents, businesses and visitors are directed to Governor Pritzker’s state-wide emergency Stay-at-Home Order, which begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21. The goal of this difficult decision is to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Non-essential organizations and businesses are ordered to be closed until end of day April 7. Schools will remain closed as well, with the state-wide decision on school status to be announced prior to April 8.

What can you do? You can still go to the grocery store, pick up your prescription at the pharmacy, order take out meals from our local restaurants, put gas in your car, go for walks, and much more. That said, please continue to practice social distancing and frequent hand washing. If you can work from home, now is the time.

What shouldn’t you do? Please do not hoard food and supplies. Organizations affiliated with transporting food and supplies and keeping our grocery stores open are considered essential to our communities. They will stay open and available.

Please note that Village essential services remain operational, though buildings such as Village Hall, Public Works and the Police Station are closed to visitors. If you need support, consider calling the VHPD non-emergency number at 847-362-4449 or sending an email to VHPD@VHills.org. In the case of an emergency, call 911. For more information, including updated directives and explanations, view the State of Illinois Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response webpage, which includes a link at the top of the page for viewing the State’s daily update conference. Resources are also posted at vernonhills.org.

Let's work together as a community – for the greater good – as we change our behaviors in an effort to keep us all safer. Be healthy.
