BULLETIN BOARD

> Volunteer Memphis is promoting ways for people to help their communities during the COVID-19 outbreak while adhering to the CDC’s guidelines for social distancing. Anyone interested in volunteering either in-person or virtually can find a list of options here.

With Shelby County Schools Nutrition Department having to stop its meal services due to COVID-19, the Mid-South Food Bank is asking for volunteers to help them pack food for families. Organizers are scheduling smaller groups of volunteers, spacing them further apart, and providing gloves and safety equipment to volunteers.

Blood donations are down more than 25% during the outbreak. Vitalant is offering online appointments at any of their five area donation centers. This allows staff and donors to practice social distancing while providing a life-saving service in a clean, medical environment.

Volunteer Memphis staff is screening opportunities and adding them to the list. If you know of any volunteer options or someone who needs help, email their information to Andrea Hill, Director of Volunteer Memphis, at ahill@leadershipmemphis.org.

> Turner Construction Company’s Memphis office recently completed the structural foundation portion of the $25 million, 48,000-square-foot Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory and Regional Headquarters under construction in Jackson, Tennessee. Turner will now continue with the interior portion of the project. The facility will replace the Memphis Crime Lab, to allow TBI to increase efficiency and quality across the 21 counties that the agency serves in West Tennessee. Turner is collaborating on the project with Lewis Group Architects and engineers Smith Seckman Reid. Construction began in September 2019, with final project completion set for July.

A new study from SmartAsset ranked the most affordable places to live in Tennessee — most of the top 6 in West Tennessee near Memphis. The sixth annual study weighed factors like taxes, homeowners’ insurance and home costs relative to the local median income. Check out the full list below for additional detail on how the cities ranked:
