“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt

Principal Corner
Thank you for your tireless commitment and energy throughout the week as we endure a new reality ahead. The road is bumpy and uncertainty can prevail, but with collaboration and teamwork we can overcome any obstacle put forth in front of us. This is new learning for all of us this week and we are growing through new opportunities and adding new tools to our toolbox daily. We did not ask for the new reality, but we can tackle this head on with courage and passion to serve our students! I am proud of our Wildcat community and energized to continue our work together as we cross new bridges together. Take care of yourself and loved ones! Be well and healthy!!!

Please continue to stay in contact! We all desire the person to person communication and connection. We might have to distance ourselves from others, but we need each other now more than ever. I will be available to be contacted anytime and you can always reach me on my cell via phone call or text, don’t hesitate to reach out. Please leave your name if you text…I don’t have contact information for everyone on my phone (612) 310-3601.

Admin Intern Report

As we navigate this time of disruption to our normal it is important to take care of yourself. One way to do this is to create a “Work at Home” schedule. One idea I particularly like is to take a walk to work, and then take a walk home. This signals your brain that work has started and ended. This can be important for those with children at home, that we continue to provide them with that sacred family time. You may also wish to schedule a set lunch and break time, and be sure to get outside. Thank you for all you do each day, and continue to do remotely. It is truly uplifting to witness the creativity and grit of this group! So many of you have reached out to see what else you can do. Thank you! We will be reaching back as we know more. We are all in this together. Stay peaceful, healthy, strong!

Academic Coach Corner

This was a learning curve of a week. I have never even thought about using Google Meet before. Took some practice with my teenage kids. I am providing a cheat sheet on how to access the information/resources presented in our shared Google Drive. I will also be sharing out invites to all the various Google Meets that were set this week. You will also find a copy of our Leadership Google Meets calendar below. Reach out with any questions, wonders, and needs that may arise. Learning and Teaching is developing a “Distance Learning Guide,” that will be coming our way. McGraw Hill (ConnectEd) is also working to develop resources for teachers and families to support at home learning.

Resources for week
I found this article today on distance learning  It offers some great ideas including setting up routines for eLearning, ways to offer support, and SEL "check-ins" with students.  Thought I'd pass it along to you ...
https://www.edutopia.org/article/how-support-home-learning-early-elementary

Another site I found was a blog site where teachers are sharing ideas on a PBS Blog Site from lower to upper grade levels.  You might know of other sites also, please put those resources into our Google Folder under COVID-19 in the Westwood Documents.  Please will be a great area for us to gather and share resources for all staff at Westwood.

More detailed information and plans for distance learning for curriculum/instruction will be coming from our Learning and Teaching Department.  We have been in contact with folks in that department and they are working towards delivering you resources and lessons for students in the coming weeks.
