Kāpiti Community Choir Newsletter

Hi everyone. I'm very sorry to have to tell you we won't be meeting for choir next Tuesday at Raumati. Its becoming clear that we have to avoid any non-essential gatherings regardless of size if we're to slow down the rate of community transmission. In addition to this, many of our singers are elderly and/or have a weaker immune system. We want you all to be well and safe so that we can sing together again - soon!

COMMUNITY + CHOIR

KCC isn't just a bunch of strangers who sing together. Over the last 18 months I've seen friendships forged and a real community blossom. There has been a real need for people to be able to take a couple of hours 'time out' from the stresses of daily life, and that need has only increased with the development of the coronavirus pandemic.
So we don't stop being a community just because we can't meet for choir on a Tuesday. I'll continue to send you newsletters, with audio from the archives of our singing together. There might be news of things happening online that you can get involved in (Gareth Malone has something special afoot in the UK - see below) and I'll copy over suitable posts from Facebook for those of you who are not on that platform. In time we might even have our own virtual meeting place where we can have catchups, help each other out, and get to do even more chatting than we do at choir practise!

But first the singing. Choirs around the world are connecting online to sing together. It's early days yet, and there's much fiddling with computer settings to be figured out, but where there's a will, there's a way. It's not going to be an option for everyone, but I'm determined that somehow we'll keep in touch through the stormy weather. (photo credit: David Burbidge, Lakeland Voice)

TAKE A BREAK FROM THE NEWSLETTERS

When you're not in the mood to come to choir, you can just opt to stay home and take some time out, but when choir is landing in your mailbox its a different story. If you want to take a break from my newsletters for now, just hit the 'unsubscribe' button below I won't take it personally! When you're ready to hear from me again, you can re-subscribe by following the same button or just email me and I'll sort it out.

Gareth Malone's
GREAT BRITISH HOME CHORUS

I've signed up for this already - to be honest, I'm not sure what I'm in for, but when the great Gareth Malone (he who started the Military Wives' Choirs) is only just down the road, virtually speaking, it's got to be worth a try! If you'd like to get involved, here's the link, you have to verify your registration by responding to the email they send you, then we'll get more info next week. I'll keep you posted with what's happening
