COMMUNITY NEWS
What Else Is Happening in Our Church Community?
|
|
|
More than 50 people joined us for our first online service last week! The spirit of our Community was shining bright as we shared words, music, stories, comfort, and connection in our new virtual space. It was nice to welcome members and friends from near and far for a time of togetherness, and we look forward to doing it again this week.
Here are some other ways we're staying connected:
- We're ministering to each other. Reach out to one another directly by text, phone, or email. Try a video meeting through Facebook, Skype, Google, or other method.
- Marissa is distributing RE lessons by e-mail every week and hosting a brief weekly Zoom call for the kids on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm.
- We're sharing with and supporting others on our Facebook group. This is a closed group, meaning content is only visible to group members. It’s a great place to share joys and sorrows or other feelings and experiences.
- We're encourging people to keep connected to church news and inspiration through our FaceBook page, YouTube channel, website, weekly newsletter, and, now, Zoom platform. More information on all these resources are below.
- Anyone may contact Rev Dave by phone, email, FaceBook, Twitter, or Instagram to connect with him for pastoral care.
- We're all invited to join one of Rev. Sunshine Wolfe’s Zoom calls, open to all Central East Region congregational and organizational leaders every Wednesday from 11am to 12pm (eastern) and Friday from 5pm to 6pm beginning Friday, March 13th until the end of the pandemic.

TAKE ACTION
Opportunities to Commit to Justice
|
|
|
New opportunities are emerging every day, as we learn how to care and fight for one another during a time of distance.
Here are a few:
- From UUPlan: In light of the developing COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing to protect our communities, we are joining Rep. Boyle in demanding every voter be sent a mail-in voting application for the April 28th primary election and the general election. Call your representative today and ask them to sign on to HB-2367. Find your representative HERE.
- Pittsburgh Virtual Tip Jar: Help Support Service Industry Workers: Many of us would regularly be patronizing bars, salons, restaurants, and other businesses that have been ordered closed. Even if you are socially isolating, you can help to support our local service industry staff. Consider sending a "tip" to your favorite bartender, server, stylist, aesthetician. Use the google sheet linked below to find their Venmo/Paypal info. Note that you can sort by each column heading or use "ctrl+f" to find the person you are looking for by name or place of employment. If you don't see your favorite service industry folks listed, encourage them to come and fill out the form (see below). Please circulate widely. Click Here to View Current Listings & Send a Tip
- Donate to the Emergency Fund Today:The Emergency Fund for Artists was originally created to support artists that have experienced specific emergencies such as fire, flood, accident, theft that have impacted their ability to continue their artistic practice. As such, funds are limited and we need your help! Make a donation directly to the fund today to suport our region's artists during this time of critical support.
- Northside Common Ministries is in need of cash donations to help the purchase the greatest amount of food possible, in order to meet an urgent need. Donations can be made here: https://goodwillswpa.salsalabs.org/ncmpantrydonate/index.html.
If you are aware of other social justice opportunities in our community, please send them to news@alleghenyuu.org so we can share!
