In the midst of change and uncertainty...

In the midst of change and uncertainty, there is no greater comfort than our faithful and loving God. We have the opportunity to shine for Him through this current “storm”, standing on His promises, resting in His strength and sharing His love. Please let us know if there is any way we can serve you during this time. Continuing to study God’s Word is a great way to grow closer to God and stay connected as a Capital AWANA Community.

We missed you all last Sunday, as Capital AWANA was cancelled. All in-person groups at Capital Baptist will not meet in-person for the next two Sundays as well. Certainly when we can meet in person again is not clear at this time. So we are gearing up to conduct AWANA remotely, whether for two weeks or the remainder of the year! Not only do we want to encourage all of us to continue to hide God’s Word in their hearts, and ensure children who are set on completing books to meet their milestones for award, we also want to provide means for children and families to remain connected to our leaders and each other.

This Sunday, T&T is offering Council Time remotely.  If you haven't already, please respond to the email from Thurraya Kent, T&T Director, outlining the specifics. Based on this first effort and your interest, we plan to expand our offerings to include other age groups and small group time. We will keep you updated on the particulars, but at any time we’d be glad to connect with your family to listen to your child’s verses and discuss questions that may arise. Please contact Norah Harmon at 703-200-8677 or email her at nharmon@capitalbaptist.org.

The remainder of this edition of the newsletter will share February and March's highlights and planned future activities at Capital.

Commander’s Corner

As we were preparing for Underground Church Night - one of the few “serious” theme nights we conduct, I was reading about current stories about the persecuted church (www.persecution.com). It is a sobering reminder not to take for granted the freedom that God has blessed us with. It is a humbling, but also encouraging reminder of God’s strength and faithfulness, to read about the faith of persecuted believers. I hope you will join me in praying for them.

Here is a good list of specific things to pray - for the persecuted church - I’d offer a good list for all of us:

1. Pray they will sense God’s presence (Hebrews 13:5
2. Pray they will know we are praying for them (2 Timothy 1:3
3. Pray they will experience God’s comfort (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
4. Pray they will see God open doors for evangelism (Colossians 4:3
5. Pray they will boldly share the gospel (Acts 4:29
6. Pray they will mature in their faith (Colossians 1:28-29
7. Pray they will be granted wisdom in covert ministry work (Acts 9:23-25
8. Pray they will remain joyful amid suffering (Acts 5:41
9. Pray they will be able to forgive and love their persecutors (Matthew 5:44
10. Pray they will be deeply rooted in God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
