I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and is at home. An artist reached out about resources during this crisis and it reminded me of 2008 when many artists turned to JAI for help. Here are some important resources.

R E S O U R C E S

Art Specific:
  • Creative Capital, NYC - List of Art Resources during COVID-19 Outbreak this list includes many emergency relief funds for artists. Some of the grants listed are regionally specific, however, many are national.
  • HYPERALLERGIC is generating a daily art world report about COVID-19. They are reporting on all art mediums. The report is also sharing international news. It is short and easy to digest to stay on top of major art world events.
  • Creative Capital, NYC - Online List of Events these are art happenings that are taking place virtually all over the US.
  • LA Artist Census - The Los Angeles Artist Census project by artist Tatiana Vahan and ICA. The goal is to also provide artists, art institutions, researchers, and the public with a clearer picture of what the current Los Angeles artist community looks like.
  • American Alliance for Museums - Send a letter to Congress urging for the arts to be included in the economic relief package for COVID-19. Note, you DO NOT need to be a museum professional to submit the letter. You can say "artist" as a job and our members could put the Jewish Artists Initiative in the "organization" field. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT as we need money to be specifically allocated for the art and culture sector.
  • California Arts Council Survey - They are surveying the whole are field to understand the economic loss due to COVID-19.
  • COVID-19 Freelance Artist Guide - This is a blog dedicated to sharing resources for artists including economic relief, legal advice, and much more.

General & Jewish Resources:
Telemedicine - You can get a doctor consult online without leaving your home. These doctors can help you asses if you should go to a hospital many of them are 24/7. Also, check with your insurance provider some companies have their own telemedicine program.

Faces of Resilience, Faith and the Human Spirit: Bill Aron, Dina Dar & Dave Fox

Curated by Georgia Freedman-Harvey

March 29 - April 29, 2020
Alpert JCC, Long Beach

Please Note: POSTPONED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2020

The artwork of Bill Aron, Dina Dar and Dave Fox tell stories of determination, hope, faith, resilience and the power of the human spirit to thrive even after the darkness of the Holocaust.

Dina Dar and Dave Fox were both born in Europe. They would have their identity and lives shaped by the events of the Holocaust, and their artwork is a reflection of their resiliency to survive and to still find beauty in life. JAI member Bill Aron will exhibit a selection of portraits of Holocaust survivors from the series The Indestructible Spirit, commissioned by the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education at Chapman University in conjunction with The 1939 Society. All of the artworks resonate the strength of the human spirit, and what each of us can achieve.
