Rabbi’s Message

In this week’s Parasha, Vayakhel-Pekudei, the Israelites construct a sacred space in the wilderness together. The Israelites are still wandering in the wilderness, still in a situation of great uncertainty, yet by taking on this project, they affirm that they are agents in creating sacred community. Rabbi Shai Held discusses the significance of that act in his dvar Torah. Please join me tomorrow at noon for a discussion on how Parashat Vayakhel-Pekudei can inspire us, too, to create sacred community even in this challenging, uncertain time.

Additional Resources to Keep Our Community Connected

Over the next few weeksand possibly monthswe will be sharing a variety of interesting items that we hope will be of interest to our community: videos, writings, music, learning opportunities, etc. We will spotlight them here in TW@TBI and on our website's home page. If you come across something you think might be of interest to the community, please email Jody in the office.

Here are two resources for this week:

Virtual Shabbat Box: In this time of mounting uncertainty, we offer you a Virtual Shabbat Box. It doesn’t contain challah or candles, but rather essays, meditations and other resources for your senses that you can download and digest for Shabbat.

Jewish Meditation Starter Kit: Get started with Jewish Mindfulness meditation. Learning to meditate might help you make greater peace with the frustration of these bizarre times!

The COVID-19 outbreak is scary and disruptive. Yet, even as we make adjustments to our lives and how we gather in community, the world’s refugees and asylum seekers still deserve our support. In this time when we are reminded just how interconnected and interdependent we all are, we will continue to show solidarity for refugees and asylum seekers worldwide.

TBI Blood Drive

Sunday, April 19, 9:00am to Noon

Several blood drives have been cancelled, but our community is facing a significant blood shortage due to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation. It’s important to know that the act of giving blood is still safe yet donors are staying home–and this puts our community supply at risk. TBI will be hosting a drive in the parking lot of TBI on Sunday, April 19, from 9:00am to Noon. All sanitary precautions will be taken. Please contact Rob Stein if you have questions or want to make an appointment.
