Dear Community,

It is with heavy hearts that we write to inform you we are canceling all of our residencies for the 2020 season. We thought long and hard about this decision, and in the end came to the conclusion that it would be the safest, most prudent solution in the face of the current COVID-19 health crisis.

We are incredibly sad we won't be able to host a new cohort of incredible artists up at the Sable Land this summer. We will miss inviting you all to our Food and Art Fridays and already feel the loss of not creating our month-long collaborative spectacle for our Water in the Wood showcase. But fear not, we will be back to do it all again next year!

In the meantime, stay tuned for updates as we find other ways to stay connected and engaged with our community over the coming months.

Stay well, be safe, and be in touch.

With love,
The Sable Team

P.S. Please read on to learn about our BIPOC Artist Emergency Fund!

Emergency Relief Funds for BIPOC Artists

Sable's BIPOC Artist Fund is dedicated to providing funding for Sable artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color.

Since we will no longer be able to fund residencies this season, we are dedicating $1000 of our BIPOC Artist Fund ($50 to 20 artists) towards emergency relief for BIPOC Artists in our community.

Communities of color are the hardest hit during this pandemic, and we feel we have a chance to support, even if only in a small way. If you identify as a BIPOC Artist whose artistic work and/or financial stability have been impacted by COVID-19, please fill out this form. Priority will go to past Sable BIPOC Artists and any BIPOC Artists who were accepted to our 2020 season, then first-come first-serve for BIPOC Artists in our general Sable community.

We know that $50 is not a lot, but we hope that it may be a little boost and perhaps cover some groceries for the week, or give some extra support where it is needed most. In an effort to increase access to support, our application does not ask for any financial information, citizen status, or artist statements. We encourage undocumented artists to apply! We simply ask that folks respond honestly and with respect for the allocation of these funds for artists who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

At this moment in the dance, Orlando Zane Hunter Jr. and Ricarrdo Valentine are both midair with arms and knees bent in the middle of Sable's studio, surrounded by vertical wooden poles. Asia sits in a wooden chair, their back to the camera, with a large banjo case resting on the arm of the chair. A blue sky pokes through the lush summer trees above the rising tendril pea plants in the background.
