Products we love at the co-op!

Northwind Natural Food Co-operative is happy to be meeting all necessary pantry needs with bulk items! Going bulk is a great way to save the planet and save money in the pocket book. And that is only the beginning! Purchase a pinch, or stock up with as much as you could possibly want or need. Bring a container and check out the array of bulk items we have on hand. Select from nuts, seeds, dried fruits, grains, oats, pasta and don't forget your spices! The co-op has an array of organic spices that will meet the most eccentric pantry needs.

Letter from the President: Hello!

Spring, 2020

Welcome to Spring, 2020 at the Co-op!  It’s a great time to be a member of the Northwind Natural Foods Cooperative.  Our store looks great, the products are fresh, and the staff is enthused about bringing you the best service possible.  It’s great to be an owner, do you know who owns the other stores that provide your daily nutrition?

Our community outreach continues.  We made a snow sculpture at Powderhorn, hung out with the skiers at SISU fest, and our Farmers Market educational programing continues.  We will be at the Ironwood Township Farmers Market this summer with our boards the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August, come see us there.

As we continue to strive to serve the community, we will begin offering an opportunity to join together to support our local nonprofits.    We will have opportunities in the store for donations to the most popular local charity. Please complete our new member survey to let us know how we are doing and which charity you prefer.  Here is the survey link:

See you at the Co-op!  Deb

Staff Update

We have (almost!) made it through some of our slowest and dreariest times and are moving toward the summer busy season.  The past few months we have had some very fun and successful First Friday events, we took part in the Northern Elves Festival Downtown and hosted a community potluck & game night that was well received with approximately 20 in attendance. For the March First Friday event as a part of Craft your North, we will be hosting Anne Reimer, owner of Snowdance Pottery. For the April event Bayfield Foods will be joining us for a sampling.

To offset the slower times we reduced our ordering but with spring and summer ahead we will again re-evaluate our needs to reflect the seasons and tourism ahead.  We continue to be happy with our staffing, however Tricia has had to take a leave for family matters and it is unclear whether she will be returning, we hope to have her back as she has been an asset to the co-op. Bex has also been a great addition to the team and has taken additional initiative and started a Co-op herb garden which is set up in store where you can watch the progress.

Overall, we are really happy with where we are. The staff and board we have are wonderful and we are optimistic about the year ahead.  Thank you to all of our members for your continued support through all the ups and downs.

Happy Spring,

Cathy & Graham

Treasurer's Report

The Co-op has ended its first quarter of the fiscal year in the black by $571.35. This profit while small continues to be somewhat encouraging. Over the last year, we have seen the Co-op trending towards financial stability and this first quarter is an indication that we can sustain that trend going into the future. While this is good news, it is important to note that without the addition of our yearly membership payments and donations (listed under Other Income), we would be operating at a slight loss. To maintain financial stability, our staff continues to operate within a tight budget.

Treasurer
