We're still serving you
but a little differently

Since our last update, so much has changed for everyone across the world. The response to the COVID-19 pandemic has indeed forced people and businesses to do things differently.
We have been monitoring and adhering to government announcements diligently to make sure we are part of the solution and helping to stem the spread of this virus.
This means we have had to make some significant changes to how we operate while maintaining our essential disability, home support, housing and youth services.

Here's a look at what's changed for now:

YB Central (879 Ruthven Street)
Our main office is now closed to the public and all staff you can are working safely from home. Our main phone number and email address are still the best ways to contact us if you need to speak to someone.

Collectables

Our boutique op shop at 2 Station Street is closed. We will continue to post updates on our shop's Facebook page if you'd like to stay in touch. We are still accepting donated items to make sure our shop is ready for its re-open. To take advantage of our pick-up service, call 1300 882 764.

Disability support
We are still providing support to clients who need us. Our Groups Program is on hold at this time.

Home services for seniors
We are still providing Home Assist Secure, Home Care Packages, garden maintenance and home modifications. We are also offering a new service for people over 70 years who are self-isolating at home. We can collect groceries and medications and deliver them to your day. And if you are feeling lonely or isolated, pop your name on our phone chat list and one of our friendly staff members will keep in touch.

Community housing
We are still providing housing support and our team can be contacted by phone or email. We have suspended internal property inspections at this stage although we continue to conduct external inspections if necessary.

The Haven
Our home for youth experiencing homelessness continues at full operation.

Banter Regional Roadshow
Our special roadshow of senior events has also been postponed until further notice.

CEO's Comment

Penny Hamilton, Chief Executive

There is no doubt that these are anxious times and our lives have changed dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, and more changes will come as Australia locks down further.

YellowBridge is part of the essential services for our community which is a large responsibility and one which we take very seriously. Our focus is to deliver these services, practicing extreme hygiene to keep both our clients and people safe, and to support our front line workers with everything they need to make this happen.

We are continuing to support our seniors in our community during self-isolation. We are pleased to be able to offer the new services of grocery shopping and delivery and medication pick-up and drop off.  This complements our existing services of garden maintenance, modifications and maintenance with the focus on keeping them safe in their own homes.

Our Disability support continues to those in need and focussing on essential services. We have a large number of clients who have no family and rely on YellowBridge for care and we are committed to continue the provision of this support. Some of our clients have rightly gone home to be with families and we are continuing support remotely. This has impacted on the number of staff we require for services and unfortunately, we had to stand down 32 of our dedicated disability support workers this week. This is a temporary measure and YellowBridge is committed to re-employing these staff when the threat of the virus diminishes and our services return to normal … and they will.

Australia hasn’t reached the peak infection time yet which is expected mid-May.  It is up to all of us individually and collectively to flatten this curve and all the staff at YellowBridge are digging deep, keeping positive and playing their part in actively working to mitigate the impact of Coronavirus.

We are travelling through unchartered waters but our sails are set in the right direction. Like everyone, I look forward to the day this global pandemic is behind us and we emerge a stronger community with a fresh perspective on what we love and value most.
