Postponing the 2020 GEM Report launch
Postponing the 2020 GEM Report launch

With the Coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world, the launch of the 2020 GEM Report Inclusion and education: All means all, originally scheduled for Wednesday 8 April, will be delayed until Tuesday 23 June.

The GEM Report team had already replaced the launch events scheduled for Accra, Dubai, Jakarta and Washington DC, with a virtual launch. However, the ongoing developments means that even these alternative plans would not have been relevant under the current circumstances, given the needs of the audiences the Report is written for.

Noting the high risk that the virus may still be affecting the lives of many in June, the postponement will give the team time to further develop its first-ever virtual launch and discuss with partners how our online activities can serve their needs.

We are busy developing a targeted digital outreach plan to accompany the launch, including activities that have already begun and will continue until June and beyond.

These include:
  • A youth competition launched last week to hear their ‘One Big Idea’ on how to achieve inclusion in education. Winners will get the chance to share their idea with the world via a podcast on our GEM Report online channels.
  • A Twitter Q&A session in the run up to our launch with ministers of education from five countries in sub-Saharan Africa on inclusion and education.
  • An online Q&A with researchers, academics and the senior policy analysts in the GEM Report team in June.

We look forward to sharing more information about all of these activities, including an invitation to participate in our online global launch event soon.
