HELPING US FROM YOUR HOME
As schools and workplaces close due to COVID-19, many Portlanders are wondering how they can continue to support their community from home, while observing recommended social distancing protocols.

Support Transition Projects and your neighbors experiencing homelessness today by:
  • sponsoring a meal in our shelters through a donation
  • preparing a meal or sack lunches and delivering to a shelter
  • organizing a drive and dropping off needed items
Scroll down to learn more about each of these critically-needed options.
SPONSOR A MEAL IN OUR SHELTERS
The coronavirus pandemic has led to many unexpected costs. Donate now to help us provide healthy, hot meals for residents in our nine shelters.

$50 – 15 Dinners  |  $100 – 30 dinners  |  $200 – 60 dinners
$300 – 90 dinners  |  $420 – 120 dinners

As the days progress, our needs as an organization may change. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date information on how you can support your community during these trying times.

DONATE
PROVIDE FOOD TO A SHELTER
COVID-19 precautions in place in our shelters – including no longer allowing volunteers inside to cook in our kitchens – have resulted in a loss of many of our volunteer-provided meals. Help us continue to provide well-rounded meals to our shelter residents by preparing food at home!
Cook and Deliver a Meal
There are many simple crowd-pleasing dishes you can easily make from home to deliver to a shelter. Contact us to learn what sites need help and when, and for recipes and tips to feed a crowd.
Prepare sack meals
If a hot meal is beyond your kitchen’s capacity, try putting together sack meals for a shelter! Deli sandwiches with fruit and sides can easily feed a shelter, and take the pressure of preparing meals every day off of our busy staff. Contact us for a sack meal guide and shopping list ideas.
Bring Ingredients to a Shelter
Easier still, you can bring food staples to our shelters, to help staff prepare meals for our participants. Milk, eggs, cereal, meat, vegetables, fruits and grains are all needed.
PROVIDE FOOD
ORGANIZE A DONATION DRIVE
IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
With people leaving home less often, donations of much-needed items like clothing, hygiene supplies, and linens are dramatically decreasing, but the need for these items is as great as ever. Help your neighbors experiencing homelessness by collecting items around your neighborhood! This can still be done while maintaining the appropriate social distance.
  • Choose the items you will collect:
    • Most-needed items are new or gently used pants, jackets, shoes, and underwear (adult, all sizes), towels, blankets, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes
    • See our full wish list
  • Create a collection plan – is there a local spot (an office, bank, or grocery store) that will allow drop-offs at their business? Will you have people put things on their porch, and collect everything yourself on a specific day?
  • Reach out to your neighbors! Be specific about how they can contribute, and what items you are collecting.
  • Post a request online, in NextDoor, or in your local BuyNothing group
  • Reach out to your Neighborhood Association to see if they can spread the word
  • Make flyers and place them in people’s mailboxes or in neighborhood hubs
