Coronovirus/Covid-19 Update

Dear Friends,

My hope is that this email finds you well and in good spirits.  Unfortunately we are facing a difficult and challenging time as we hear the news that we are in the midst of a world-wide health crisis.  Over the last few days, I, like many of you, have been following the news, trying to understand more about what is happening.  As Christians we hold onto the truth that God is sovereign, above all things as the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and remembering that He is the source of our faith, giving us strength and courage to face each day.

On Tuesday evening Lynn Green, the General Secretary of the Baptist Union, led over 2000 people in a call to prayer, encouraging us to be strong and to "not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6).  No matter where we are, may we continue to intercede for this situation and seek God's divine intervention for a swift resolution.  If you missed this call to prayer and would like to take part, you can still watch the video by following the relevant link at the bottom of this email.

We recognise that this is an unprecedented situation, and as such, it will have a deep and lasting impact on us as individuals, the church, and as a community, whether it be at a local, national or global level.  Because of the seriousness of this virus and the demographic of our church fellowship, the leadership team has made the difficult decision to suspend all of our activities with immediate effect.  This has not been an easy decision to make and we recognise that this is likely to have a considerable impact on a good many people within the church.  We are not alone in this, as the Church of England, Methodists, Catholics and many, if not all, other churches across Southport and the UK have also suspended their activities.

To help us remain as connected as possible during this time we are implementing a number of options so that we can try to best support everyone who is a part of Scarisbrick New Road Baptist Church, particularly those who may feel even more isolated than normal.  Details of these can be found further down this email.

In the meantime, if you need some inspiration, Tom McVicar has shared a song called "I Speak Jesus".  The words are particularly apt and the link to the YouTube video can be found further down this email.  Please rest assured that we will try to keep everyone as updated and as connected as possible.

With every blessing,

All activities at Scarisbrick New Road Baptist Church
have been suspended with immediate effect. This includes:
  • Sunday Morning Worship
  • Sunday Evening Prayer
  • Church Meetings
  • Compass Groups
  • Easter Events (Mission Impossible, Maundy Thursday & Good Friday)
  • Parent & Toddlers

  • Sycamore Cafe

Staying Connected

Prayer Chain
The prayer chain is up and running and is being organised by Mary Brocklehurst.  This can be used for prayer requests as well as urgent messages.  If you would like to be included in this and become a much valued link in the chain you can phone Mary Brocklehurst on 01704 214560.

Telephone Support
Don't forget to stay in touch with people by telephone.  A simple phone call can make all the difference and can really help to brighten someone's day.  Each person in church has also been assigned to a member of the leadership team who will contact the people in their group on a regular basis.  If you have any queries about this please phone Dan Parkes on 07778600366 or Rob Poole on 07977930866.

Website & Twitter
Links to our Twitter feed and the church website are at the bottom of this email.  If you are on Twitter you can follow us at @thethreesails and get updates as they are posted.  If you know of anyone who would like to subscribe to future email updates, there is a subscribe button at the bottom of the contact form on the church website which can be found at www.southportbaptist.org.uk

Livestream & Zoom
This coming Sunday (22nd March 2020) my intention is to Livestream a time of worship and reflection starting at 10:30am.  This will be broadcast from The Manse via YouTube and will be available on the church website (under the "What We Do" menu option).  Click on the "Livestream" button below to join us.

Livestream - Sunday 22nd March @ 10:30am
Also on Sunday afternoon it would be good for as many of us as possible to meet online in a "virtual meeting room" using the Zoom virtual conference system.  This will be for approximately 30 minutes as an opportunity to share with one another and to pray.  Please choose the times you could make using the Doodle poll, which can be accessed by clicking on the "Choose A Time To Gather" button below.  You will need to do this in the next day or two so that I can schedule the meeting and get an email out to let everyone know what time to meet.  You do not need a login to use Zoom, just a computer or mobile device.  To get the app on your mobile device select the relevant app store link below.

Because of the urgency involved in getting in touch with as many people as possible, I have sent this email to everyone I have an email address for who is connected to our church.  I am aware that for some this will be a lifeline while for others it may well be unwelcome or irrelevant.  If you do not wish to continue receiving emails from us, please feel free to unsubscribe using the option at the bottom of this email.
